Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

Cal Poly SLO Animal Science vs Pepperdine Bio

which one would you guys choose?

S accepted to Business major. 4.17 with 30 ACT.

@Bja777 Do you know when the portal got updated for your son?

D accepted poli sci, portal Thursday night, email Saturday morning

@KhaoSoiii “Cal Poly SLO Animal Science vs Pepperdine Bio”

I don’t know about Pepperdine’s program. I do know Poly’s Animal Science is awesome, and SLO is one of the best areas in the state to live. (I’m local so I’m biased) Pepperdine is a gorgeous campus and close to the beach. But so is Poly.

One slight negative about living in SLO is it is geographically isolated, and getting here from anywhere is at minimum a 3 hour drive or an expensive plane trip. This becomes a positive when you live here, but when you are a student I can see how that would be a drag.

Pepperdine is affiliated with the Church of Christ and can be very restrictive if you are not of like mind. There are convocation and chapel requirements. It’s not like attending a Catholic Jesuit college where you can fit in if you are not Catholic. My niece attended Azusa Pacific, and although she was ok with the religious aspect of the campus, even she got tired of the constant bombardment of religion. Who wants to write a paragraph on how statistics helped their faith in God grow at the end of a final?

if the religious part is not an issue with you, then consider cost.

If cost is no worry and you the programs are comparable then it comes down to where you feel comfortable.

@Bja777 My S and four of his friends all received their bus admin acceptances on Friday around 4:15pm through the portal. We are in-state. I have no knowledge of how CP informs as there have been so many theories on this thread. Good Luck to you !

@Commish2g , @Bja777 congratulations! With many posts got accepted to Business Administration major and my DD has not yet received any thing, now I am concerned if that’s a indication for not getting in. I know her chance is slim with 3.76 WGPA and 1460SAT, hope next week we can hear more, she was still waiting for CalPoly, CPP and SDSU and all these schools already have acceptance for Business major, but her portal still shown Decision Pending. :frowning:

D is a freshman ME applicant in-state and in Northern CA. UWGPA 3.9 and WGPA 4.21 with 42 CA Community college credits completed during high school at the time of application. SAT score 1510. Held a steady job since she turned 16, active in performing arts throughout high school. Robotics/ engineering classes and tournaments. PSAT Commended Scholar. Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society through the Community college. Accepted at CalPoly Pomona. Application for SLO is still pending…

We’re not sure when the admission was posted to the portal. My S received the acceptance email on Friday at 4:51 PM.

I honestly think that many more acceptances will be coming out this week. I have seen people on here with great stats that would likely not get rejected from a state school. Here are some stats from last year’s applicant’s GPAs and test scores! https://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html

Has anyone heard anything about scholarships yet?

@KhaoSoiii Do you know what you want to do after you finish your undergrad studies? Animal Science vs Biology are 2 different majors. If your plan is to apply to veternary school, I would suggest Cal Poly because you get a lot of hands on experience with animals. My kid’s major is Animal Science and has enjoyed all the hands on experiences with the animals at Cal Poly.

Anyone get in for soil sciences yet?

The financial aid page says that we should find out our financial aid offers in early April. Does anyone know from past years whether that is true or whether it’s just a date they put out there but they release them earlier (like the April 1st date for admissions decisions)?
I got into Cal Poly, but I need to figure out whether I can pay for it and what I’ll need to do in order to cover the costs. So obviously I’m hoping to get my financial aid package sooner rather than later.

anyone get econ yet? I’ve only seen a couple of acceptances as of now… also are acceptances over and are rejections coming now?

@jjkmom SDSU has only put out acceptances back in December for the students who qualified for their honors school. My DD received her acceptance into their Kinesiology/Pre-Physical Therapy and her boyfriend is still waiting for RD to Marine Bio. They are supposed to be coming out the last 2 weeks of March

@bumblbee: Did you run the Net Price Calculator for SLO? This should give you a good estimate of your costs unless your parents are divorced or your family owns a business.

https://financialaid.calpoly.edu/calculator/npcalc.htm

@Gumbymom and @bumblbee unfortunately the cal poly pricer is way out of date…it gives estimates for the 2015-2016 school year, and still includes the $2k grant that I believe has now been phased out. A better estimate is given here https://viewbook.calpoly.edu/cost-and-aid/ and at least has estimated 2018-2019 costs. No word on the extra OOS fee tho.

@MelloG: Thanks for updated FA info.

@Gumbymom and @MelloG
Thanks! I have already looked at both of those sites though. It’s hard to tell because the financial situation in my family is very mixed up (my parents are divorced, the parent that did my FAFSA is going through a second divorce that changes my family income, etc.). I know that I can talk to the financial aid office about any big changes that have happened to try to see if they can adjust what they will give me, but I really just want to know if I should expect the offer in early April like they said or if it should come in the next week or two.
