Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

@spicyquiche dont give up yet…you may be surprised. 3 yrs ago my daughter applied to UCI on a whim and it was a huge reach for her and she got it so you just never know. She is in her Jr yr right now and loves it there and will finish up a quarter early next year so anything is possible. She had a 3.85 I think and got in so keep the faith as even if SLO doesnt work out there may be some UC’s that accept you. There is another 25 days until all releases so just try to be patient and good luck!

@spicyquiche i’ve heard of people getting into UCs over calpoly

@Bean981 that made me feel a bit better, thank you (’: i’m hoping to get into UCLA or UCI

when/have they given our scholarships yet?

Has anyone heard anything about psych majors yet?

@spicyquiche I feel the same. But my problem is my low SAT score. GPA is 4.24. Hoping for UCLA too

@spicyquiche Don’t give up! UC’s evaluate holistically and consider more than academic stats.

i was waitlisted

@rocknix and @ningve, selectivity is simply a matter of popularity and may or may not have a relationship to quality. To say that Cal Poly is not as good as an Ivy or Stanford, implies that the Ivys and Stanford are good. What we can say, is that they are popular. My uncle, a Stanford PhD told my son he’d get a better engineering education at Cal Poly than at Stanford. Many choose Cal Poly even after acceptances into UCB and/or UCLA. Selectivity is all about perception. Clearly, so many perceive Cal Poly, at least for some majors, to be at least as popular as the schools you mentioned. Better though is in the eyes of the beholder.

@campingkathryn Are you sure she was not waitlisted?

still waiting on economics, anyone hear anything?

Let’s no forget it is a competitive world out there. Numbers talk and if someone did no get in it is simply because someone in their major had a higher MCA. Please remember that there are kids on this thread who did get accepted and plan to attend CP as heir first choice. I understand hat people feel emotional but that is no reason to insult their choice. The fact is that there are many high stat kids that will get into Berkeley but not Cal Poly. Great for them. But don’t insult those who make it and choose to attend.

Decisions came out thursday of last week right? So, if I don’t get waitlisted today is there still hope that I will be accepted later in the week? Or are rejections all that is left?

DD waitlisted for Biochemistry IS.

I got waitlisted for in state environmental engineering and my friend got waitlisted for in state CS.

@eyemgh i can not believe that you are actually agreeing that 4.2 gpa is not good enough just a look at their average stats and you’d understand that it’s ridiculous

How does their waitlist work? If a spot opens up do they wait til May to notify people, or do they notify people as spots become available? Congrats for everyone that got accepted!

what is your fav part of animal science, and least fav? Is Animal Science a hard major to get into? Do you know the average stats of the people who get into animal science. What is the best experience and worst experience you have had at school so far? Would you consider animal science a harder major? @Ritzcrackers01

@eyemgh IMO, it sounds like your uncle just wasn’t proactive in finding opportunities at Stanford, there’s no way Stanford doesn’t offer top tech opportunities. No matter where a person goes, they can’t just sit back and wait for stuff to come to them. Just because a person got into Stanford doesn’t mean they should expect opportunities to be thrown at them, because guess what, shocker, everyone else there got in too. If you go to either Stanford or CP SLO, then congrats, you’ll have a great education and tons of opportunities, IF you’re willing to go out and get it.

@Goolia66 i am not saying cal poly is a bad choice at all? it’s a great choice and think it’s an great affordable option for kids, but the thing about having a higher mca is not true there’s kids at my school getting admitted into business with a 3.7W gpa and 1300s SAT score i have seen kids with much higher stats on here get waitlisted so i just feel bad for them
