Cal Poly SLO Class of 2028 Freshman Discussion Thread

Accepted Aerospace Engineering
cSU GPa 4.19 fully weighted 4.55 at time of application. A-G 34 years of classes. 25 total AP/DE classes.

I think CP considers course rigor so having a ton of A-G classes that are AP/DE helps even though it lowers the CSU GPA. I wish they released their criteria like SJSU does and they way they used to with the MCA calculation before they went test blind.

CSU GPA is 9-11 whereas UC gpa is 10-11 so CSU gpa is lower than UC GPA.

For those interested in her type of courses: English 4 years plus communications class at CC
Math: 8 years
Science 8 years
Language: 7 years between HS and CC
Social studies/History : 4 years
Art: 2 years
Multiple ECs/ job/ awards/ etc/leadership.
AP/Honors 9
DE16 classes with 70 credits completed Igetc and will get 3 AA degrees this semester.

Other institutions: accepted Tulane Caltech UCSC. UCD. UCI. SJSU Long Beach ( She has released some of these as she gets admission to her higher ranked choices).

Awaiting results at UCSB/UCLA /UCB and SDSU UCSD

3 years foreign language - 4 years English -one was honors and one was an AP. When we attended the tour - the admissions person said AP’s likely counted as extra towards the 5 but can’t say for sure as she wasn’t very firm in her answer.

Did your son apply to the major as first choice or been placed there as alternative?

Ours said APs weren’t counted. My daughter has AP lit and lang.

It is not over until you get a decision. Last year there were a few admits after the initial wave.

It doesn’t mean that - it just looks like they have only sent out the first batch of admits so far.

anyone heard geography/anthropology

Parent here so I’m just guessing on the numbers below.
School has odd schedule with accelerated yearlong courses last each semester term, so you can double up on subjects by taking one “year” in the fall then the next level in the spring. There are 4 periods in the day, so up to 8 “years” per school year.

After reviewing the SLO GPA calc, I think we should hang up our hat on this one. Freshman year was not a good one for my son. Onto the other UCs who thankfully do not look at grade 9!
