Cal Poly SLO Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

I felt the same way 4 years ago when my first kid applied, but he’s about to graduate and the admissions process was not representative of how things went after that. And for what it’s worth, I’m spending time reading this board to distract me from 3 other schools that may or may not release decisions this week for my 2nd kid. I prefer the ones that announce the day and time for sure, but plenty don’t.

Acceptances from McGill roll out from mid-December until the end of April. That’s 4.5 months of painful waiting!

100% agree + you don’t need to see your decision immediately as it’s published, it’s not going to disappear. They will send an e-mail an hour or two after the decision is published in most cases. Just wait till the end of school to check, curiosity does get the better of us sometimes.

This is very hard to do for certain people.

I would say if there is no decision at 7 pm, it’s pretty safe to say it’s not today. Maybe there are just so many applicants this year, they are going to need some more time but we will see what happens at 7 pm, I really would hope for a decision tonight.

In general, I agree with you. People can get a little weird about decision days and it’s not healthy. That said, I think some schools do a worse job of communicating than others. When UCs and other large schools can give a hard date a few weeks out, or at least a week out, a school like Cal Poly should be able to manage that. It’s an important piece of info for families planning admitted students days/spring breaks and other personal events. Decisions come out so close to admitted student events and there is a scramble to coordinate travel plans.
Colleges give students a hard deadline for applications, for their own planning purposes. I think colleges could do the same. Informing students a week ahead of a decision date is not unreasonable

If the decisions don’t roll out today what day would they start

Oh I have no idea. I just saw that people said previous years were around the 10th, which is why a lot were expecting it today. Maybe it will be tomorrow? Don’t quote me on that - it could be next week

Just wait for the e-mail folks. A decision will be out when it’s time.

Timing Cal Poly can be unpredictable it seems with varying times and dates every year.

For me, the biggest issue with their roll out is that they don’t let everyone know all at once. Acceptances one week, a few waitlists the next week, and then all of the denials a week after that. Why not just send it all out at the same time? That is what I have never understood.

so if we don’t get the email this week then most likely waitlisted or rejected? That’s horrible way to roll it out.

Because it’s illogical and no reason for it! Absolutely none. It’s a garbage way to handle a release.

Yup. That’s how they do it. Talk about kicking people when they are down.

Yes, that was how it was for S19 and D22.
