Cal Poly SLO Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

They have the absolute worst decision release ‘timeline’ (if you can even call it that). Drips and drabs of acceptances for several days then silence. Followed by waitlist and denials a week or two later. It’s pretty cruel.

Here are the Projected admit rates for Ag Communications is around 50% and Dairy Science around 57%.

Do you know the admit data for those?

They are not the actual admit rates but based off projected target information posted by SLO. They list the projected applicants and spots available for each major. Then based on each colleges yield you can get a guesstimate of how many students they may admit for each major. Usually they admit 2-3 times as many students then spots available.
It is not an exact science but it can give you an idea on how competitive a major will be.

Thank you so much! do you know if dairy science is a popular major? i’m worried that i won’t get in for ag communications.

No Diary science is not a popular major. SLO projects like 52 applicants with 15 spots for enrollment.

The most popular majors in the College of Agriculture are Animal Science, Agricultural Business and Environmental Science and Management. Your GPA is competitive.

What are your thoughts on admission to Nutrition? My son had a 4.04 when we calculated it during the application process.

A 4.04 GPA is within the College of Agriculture’s admitted 25th-75th percentile range of 3.89-4.23.

GPA is only one of several factors considered in the application review. Since SLO does not break out specific statistical data by major, all can be said is the student is competitive based on their GPA.

Projection target information for Nutrition shows 572 applicants for 103 spots.

SLO admissions can be unpredictable so you hope for the best for your student.

My son has a weighted 4.1, multiple AP classes. He scored a 5 on AP Calc AB test will that help him? He applied under Business

SLO GPA is 9-11th a-g course grades with an 8 semester Honors point cap for CSU/UC approved Honors classes (California HS’s only), AP/IB or DE/CC CSU Transferable classes taken 10-11th grades.

Is the 4.1 weighted, the SLO GPA?

The Business college’s 25th-75th percentile for admitted SLO GPA was 4.04-4.25. For Business Admin, SLO projections show 8136 applicants for 657 spots.

AP exam scores are not considered for admissions purposes but AP classes are considered for rigor.

Here is SLO’s selection criteria. Selection Criteria | Cal Poly

he has a 4.1 SLO GPA

His GPA is within the admitted range. No one can predict if he will be admitted and AP scores are not considered for SLO admissions only for credit.

Cal Poly doesn’t just focus on GPA but over a 4.0 weighted it’s important. The types of classes taken are also a big factor. High school classes related to your major, 5 years of English, 3 years of a language will give a student a stronger chance of entry.

Cal Poly’s Admission Data:

Hello, i was wondering if you knew anything about the appeal process. if you know what the topic of the essay you write is? Thank you

If you plan to appeal a decision, then you need to show you are a stronger/competitive applicant than what was presented on your original application. Clearly explain your reasons for the appeal and provide supporting details. Were there extenuating circumstances such as Health or Family issues, an administrative error that were not presented to admissions? You do not write an essay but state the facts and the reason for the appeal.

Has there always been an Admissions Officer assigned in the portal? It still says awaiting decision but when we scroll down, we now see a picture of an assigned admissions officer and his contact info.
