They don’t really do rolling admissions. It is kind of a lie.
There were admissions across all majors in the admit wave on Friday.
So, those who haven’t heard back yet are likely waitlisted or denied?
Thank you. She’s written an email to the honors program to look into it. The FAQs is where we read about there being an essay. She had finished a particular page on the application and pressed continue and it came back with a notification that her application was submitted. It’s possible there was a computer glitch.
My son said the same thing…just a couple of choices to click and submit. I wonder if they send the essay form after this initial form
Oh, thank you for posting that Your son also wasn’t required to submit an essay. I will circle back after she hears back from the honors program.
Any more trickle admissions since Friday?
Son accepted. CAFES. Calculated GPA 3.87. A-G: 23. In-state.
Congratulations. Was he accepted today or last Friday? Major?
On Friday; just getting around to posting today. Viticulture.
Congrats!
Yes, most acceptances have gone out BUT not all.
Is anyone concerned about the new 2+2 program (that lets local CC students graduate with Cal Poly degrees), not to mention the merger with maritime, might diminish the value of a degree from Cal Poly?
My S is concerned that a degree from SLO won’t mean that much anymore now that anyone who comes to local cc and wants one will be able to get one.
Is this impacting anyone’s decision to attend?
Certainly the student is getting less of an experience by never leaving the CC campus for class, especially in an engineering major. But I don’t see this moving the needle for reputation. Purdue has “global on line program” Boston University MET has on line programs, etc.
Nope
This is not how it works. It looks like the same kind of transfer idea as before but they don’t change campus. It also seems it will be limited to just 4 degree programs over a 5 year implementation period, and they expect to serve 350-400 students. CPSLO has almost 22k undergraduates, by comparison.
Any one knows if Cal Poly SLO issued additional acceptance this week?
I haven’t heard anything
No concerns here. Maritime is very small and highly specialized. I guess one would also have to determine what makes a degree “valuable.”
Is a degree only valuable if it’s from a university that has a lower acceptance rate with higher GPAs and standardized test scores? If you limit your focus on this, sure, Poly would be much more valuable. Tunnel vision of sorts?
But there are other numbers/factors that can tip the scale. For instance, I’ve read reports that Maritime has one of the highest employment rates for recent graduates in the whole CSU system. Reports also put it with a very high ROI among California public universities (even above Poly). Maybe it’s my accounting brain working here….but in my opinion…high ROI=value.
Many employers flock to Cal Poly to recruit because they know that the quality of candidates has proven to be far above many other in-state public universities. Merging with Maritime is not going to change the quality of education that Poly students receive, and I think employers will know that.
Maritime is very unique and completely different than Poly. I have hopes that it might actually provide a good symbiotic relationship amongst the few majors that might overlap between the two campuses.
does that mean people who do not receive anything is rejected then?
