when did she get the decision
ā¦still waiting. At this rate Cal (Berkeley) is likely to come out before Cal (Poly). Then an eventual WL or rejection for S25 (W-GPA 4.5; CSU-capped 4.13), which they likely already know. They are a complete outlier from other schools in putting their last-minute yield game (waiting for the UC shake-out) ahead of decision-making needs of applicants and their families. As a SLO high grad in the early 90s, Iām honestly shaking my head in confusion at current trends and CPSLO behaviors
do we think that theres going to be anymore decisions out before friday?
Last years string showed some decisions on Wednesday but who knows.
or before Tues (Apr 1), for that matter?
When the first wave came out, I think 2 Fridays ago?
Yes, the first wave of acceptances was 14 March.
my son applied and not heard - anything from your side or do you know of anyone hearing back?
Many of us have not heard yet. My kid is anxiously waiting on a decision for Kinesiology.
are there more coming out soon?
Yes, more decisions are coming since not all decisions have been posted.
Thank you Gumbymom for keeping us sane
not just decisions, but acceptances or waitlists?
Unfortunately, that I cannot answer.
It is frustrating. I happen to be at an admissions q and a at Cal Poly this week with my junior and the whole room seemed to be filled with out of state families. One parent even had the nerve to ask how to claim her kid as a resident. She was pretty much shut down by the admissions team.
Not hating on our oos folks itās just frustrating because youād hope the priority is resident admission. Not sure if CSU and UC have caps on that.
The UCās have an 18% enrollment cap on OOS and international students to be fully instituted in the 2026-27 school year. The CSUās do not have a cap that I am aware however, other than the most popular CSUās, most CSU campuses have less than 5% OOS/International student enrollment.
I noticed that as well on the SDSU string in addition to SLO, SO many OOS with far lower stats than in-state stats were admitted. That leaves a lot of CA kids with only OOS options and tuitions 4X in state CA cost. I feel that for those qualified for CAL Grant, it should still apply to any CA residents tuition regardless of where they attend. The choices outside of the popular Cal State campusā leave a lot to be desired.
Many CSUs (not SLO) and UC Merced also participate in the Western States Exchange whereby students from other states can attend college in California at in-state, or very reduced, tuition costs. California residents can attend participating statesā schools at reduced rates as well.
I share the frustration (trust me!), but itās not as horrible as you think going out of state, tuition or otherwise. There are many advantages to experiencing another place, and the tuition differences on paper (which typically are not 4x even to start with) are often made up for by merit scholarship, cost of living differences, etc. For example, NC-state (an incredible STEM school in a research-heavy area) is 33K for tuition and fees and 53K for overall cost of attendance during on-campus years, compared to UCSD which is 20K tuition and fees and 45K overall cost of attendance. Clemson (which is a public flagship) is slightly more tuition than NC-state, but merit scholarships bring it even lower, plus the differences between CA narrow even further in the off-campus years, where CA cost of living is high. So it is way <4x and in fact often <2x or even < 1.5x depending on merit scholarship (which is often not awarded by UCs or top CSUs). Florida State (a top 20 public university), with a bit of merit award, costs barely more OOS than CA in-state - FL has done a great job of fixing tuition for many years. Note I am commenting on these 4 schools, in particular, because either my S23 attends (Clemson) or my S25 is deciding between (UCSD, Clemson, NC-state), so I am very familiar with costs.
True but we didnāt find one on that list that was at all close to the reputation of SLO or SDSU for oos. Please correct me if Iām wrong. Thanks so much for your reply.
