There is no way to predict especially since there is no 2025 data posted. Everything depends on how many students enroll by May 1 and how many students opt into the waitlist this year.
In general, waitlist admits start after May 1 but there are exceptions and the admits can be notified until July 15.
Here are my notes from the previous years. I rely on several social media sites for the information so dates may not be exact. I also have added to the decision template that if any student is admitted off the waitlist, to include the notification date so I can track the information better.
2025 Waitlist: Admits Thursday May 1, May 2. Few admits (OOS) July 15 and denials.
2024 Waitlist: May 22 rare admits. Admit wave June 4. Rare admit posting on June 15. Few admits June 28, July 2, July 8, July 12, July 15. Denials on July 15.
A few appeals approved August 6.
2023: Waitlist admits started April 28 around and a few in Mid-June. Waitlist closed July 15, 2023.
Is this the data that was posted, meaning that is all that was seen on the different forums last year? I have looked around also and it seemed quiet last year which makes me think there maybe werent many, especially compared to the year prior when there were abnormally high numbers. I like the May 1 and 2nd piece. It would be interesting to see if you paid your deposit on May 1st to another school and that same date were moved off the waitlist at SLO would it be possible to cancel the initial deposit. I don’t plan to wait until the last day because I don’t want a glitch to cause me not to have a place but it would also seem like a strategy to admit on May 1 knowing that some people could probably get their money back still by cancelling at the other school as long as it is before the end of the day. Not sure how many schools allow a refund even on May 1, the last day to committ.
This is information I personally collected from some social media sites but definitely not comprehensive. Also not every waitlist admit will post on these sites so it is hard to determine how many students were actually admitted since SLO has not posted their common dataset for 2025-26.
@Gumbymom New common data set is out. 8,237 offered a spot on the waitlist. Only 599 offered a spot from the waitlist. So just over 7%. They don’t say how many accepted a spot on the waitlist. Better than some years, a lot less good than last year.
I know it’s not commit day yet, but has anyone heard back from the waitlist? My daughter just got off the waitlist for UCSB but is holding out for Cal Poly
