Golden Four:
Local/In-state/OOS/International:
Volunteer/Work hours:
Leaderships positions: Yes

These are my stats so far. I graduated high school in 2023, but since I took 9 AP Classes and got the credits, I applied to Cal Poly SLO as a junior.

Major: Chemistry

GPA: 3.75

AS-T: No

Pre-reqs: Complete

Golden Four: Yes

Local/In-state/OOS/International: In-state

Volunteer/Work hours: 21+ per week related to my major

Leadership positions: Yes

I will have all the required classes done by the end of next semester, but I will only have 1 of the desired classes done since I’ve only been at my community college for a year. Since I’ve never heard of someone transferring from a community college in just one year, I’ve been dying to know if I even have a chance on getting accepted or if I should just not worry about it.

Anyone know how competitive selection is for transfers applying specifically for the journalism major? Can only find information regarding the college of liberal arts as whole

2 posts were merged into an existing topic: Cal Poly SLO Class of 2028 Freshman Discussion Thread

SLO does do not breakout admission data by major. Based on the projected target numbers, SLO projects 76 applicants for 12 enrolled spots. Of course they admit more students than spots.

It would be helpful to everyone if you & others list the 4 grades you received for your Golden Four.
It’s usually done like this: A, A, B, A

Good to know thanks!

Golden Four: A, A, A, A

Do those AP courses count for the major required for Chemistry or just for units to bump you up to a Junior?
I don’t understand how did you do 60 units in 2 semesters.

All but one of those AP classes counted as GE credit so all the major requirements I did at my CC and some GE but most of them were done through AP credits

These are my current stats. I graduated HS in 2022 and spent 2 years at CC. Cal Poly is literally the only school I want to transfer to so crossing my fingers.
Major: RPTA
GPA: 3.89
AS-T: No
Pre-reqs: Required are complete, only one desired complete
Golden Four: Yes, A A A A
Local/In-state/OOS/International: Not local, but in state
Volunteer/Work hours: 16-20, and related to major
Leaderships positions: No

Hi! I haven’t heard the term Golden Four. Could you explain?

Golden Four" courses (Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning)

You can find them on your CSU sheet used for transferring.
If your community college doesn’t have a sheet, then go to Assist.org

On the homepage on the right side under “Search below for transferrable courses”

  1. Type name of your Community College

  2. click: CSU GE-Breadth Certification Courses

  3. click “View Transferability Lists”

  4. click: CSU GE-Breadth Area

They’ll be listed under A1, A2, A3 and B4
It’s commonly known as, Public Speaking, English (Reading), English (Writing), Math.
