My daughter just got in. It said provisional admission on that self-service link. She has been admitted to SDSU; Pomona and Long Beach. She has no idea where she wants to go. We live in WA state but lived in CA for most of her childhood.

Does anyone know which one is best for students who are doing engineering? I just keep hearing that some of the schools are commuter schools so that worries her a bit.

Thanks!

Out of those California Schools you listed, Cal Poly Pomona participates in WUE which would save money for a resident of Washington. WUE (cpp.edu)

Interesting, each CSU schools have a different way of checking application status. Just checked following the instructions posted here, and yes, DS24 is offered “provisional admission”. It says the official notice will include information of the provisions, along with info on how to activate MyCSULB portal.

Of the three schools listed, SDSU would have more students living on campus due to the 2 year on-campus residency requirement plus many students that are off campus live in close proximity of the campus.

Have you visited since that is best way to determine her best fit?

The majority of Cal states are commuter schools, but students can find their “tribe”. For Engineering, check the ABET accreditation for each campus which basically assures that the school curriculum meets specific standards for graduates in these programs.

Depending upon which Engineering discipline, all three schools are good options.

My Older DD is a Sophomore at SDSU. Different major, but absolutely LOVES it there! Students required to live on campus first two years, great way to forge friendships.

Anyone know what “Pre-Psychology” major mean? Do students have to pass certain courses or apply again to get into Psychology major?

While first-year students may be admitted directly into some majors, many majors require that students begin as “pre-majors” and then meet precise major-specific degree criteria to official declare the major. This is similar to the pre-majors at SDSU.

To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 2.5
  • Minimum lower division preparation (grade of C or better required)
The following suite of major preparation courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5: Course Number Course Title
PSY 100 General Psychology
PSY 220 Research Methods
PSY 241 Psychobiology
Complete One of the Following:
PSY 110 Introductory Statistics
HDEV 190 Elementary Statistics in Social and Behavioral Sciences
SOC 170 Elementary Statistics

Required General Education courses not covered by major preparation courses:

  • Written Communication
  • Oral Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Mathematics

Yes! I guess I’m just worried that students will go home on the weekends. We plan to check out all three schools in April.

My younger son went to SDSU and yes some students go home for the weekend but there are enough students on campus that it should not be an issue. I saw more of my other son whom went to college 7 hours away than my SDSU son which was only 1.5 hours away.

The Campus is ALWAYS busy!

My concern is housing for freshman at Long Beach is not guaranteed. We are from Nor Cal.

DD was accepted today.
