I applied ED to one of my colleges and will hear the results by Jan 15th, but I will probably be stuck in these 2 cases:
They accept me without offering enough money.
They reject me.

I have recently felt in love with the new one and they have ED II on exactly Jan 15th. Can I apply ED II to that school if either circumstances above holds me back ? (on the ED agreement, they stated that if the school does not pay you enough to get there, you can withdraw your application).

Yes, you can apply ED again if you were rejected or have been released from the ED agreement. (I would NOT submit another ED application until AFTER you’ve been released in case of an acceptance without financial aid.)

Be careful with ED agreements and financial aid. There are several ways in which that can go wrong. For example, it’s conceivable that a college would offer you a financial aid package with a family contribution you can afford, but all aid in the form of loans. Would you be happy with that outcome?

Not sure how that is possible. When I applied, I had to prove sufficient funds to support myself to get an I-20 irrespective of the type of school.

Loans are funds for I-20 purposes as well. (And yes, I had a loan in my financial aid package and it was clearly marked as a loan on my I-20 and no one at the embassy cared.)

The college can offer whatever loans they want, as long as they will guarantee the loans - in other words, the loan is either from their own endowment, or the college is willing to take the risk of being on the hook if the student doesn’t pay the loan back (or they have a lender willing to take that same risk).

It is harder for them to collect if the student leaves the country, but that’s not the same as impossible (and depending on the relationship between the banks in the two countries may be far from impossible.

I started college in 2007. I know that my own college was still offering loans to international students in 2011 when I graduated, and I don’t have any reason to believe that they have stopped since.

Colleges don’t have much to lose by offering international students loans (from their own endowment) instead of grants. Even if only half of the students pay it back, the college would be better off than if they had given the money away for free.

i’ll also hear my ED result on 15th Jan. you can EDII any school which has the deadline 15/1 because it’s based on your country’s timeline. I am Vietnamese and in Vietnam, the morning of 16/1/2013 is still the evening of 15/1/2012 in US so I can still submit my EDII application to other colleges until 12:00 am of 16/1/2013. It depends on your country’s timeline. but if the EDI college meets financial need, no one can ED any other school. i hope this helps!

Thank you all, but I asked my counselor, it will be impossible anyway since you need time to negotiate with the college, and this may last for days.
@ hangmy95: Do you mind if I ask you this, where did you apply ED for ?
Sorry I am vexing you, but we are from the same place, and if I am correct we’re applying to the same school under the same plan as well (even though I have no hope), goodluck :)

A couple of things might happen that could be helpful. One is that you might get your EDI result before Jan 15. A lot of times those decisions come out early. Another is that your EDII school might let you convert your RD application to EDII, even if it’s a day or two after the EDII deadline

@dpham95: I can guess that we come from the same country :)) I applied ED for PC. you should still be hopeful because i know a friend with under 2000 SAT scores still got accepted from PC, he even applied EA. May I ask which high school in VN are you in now?

i’ve accepted but i cannot send private messages to you as i have under 15 posts on this page. so if you want to ask me something, shoot me a message first if you don’t mind.
