Can we talk about blue jeans

Bookreader, you should definitely look. Before I went to Florida a few weeks ago I stopped in my store and for $90 bought a pair of cropped red cotton pants (not jeans) which were marked down from $158 to $49 and a silk sleeveless multicolored top marked down from $120 to $41.

I pretty much buy all my clothes there and all off the sale rack.

Bookreader:

You mentioned that Nordstrom is too far from your home. Go on their website and look under “sale” items and see if they have any petite blue jeans in your size and style. Just like Zappos, Nordstrom has a free shipping and free return policy. They tend to have a wide range of blue jeans, but look at the sale section on-line and try it! You can always return it (for free) if it doesn’t fit or look right.

In fact, on-line you can scour the sale sections of many of the stores mentioned! It may pay for you to pay the shipping if you see a really nice pair of jeans at a good price.

To add to what choccie just mentioned, just got this email from Vince. If you have one of there stores near you would be a good place to look.

I just got a cashmere sweater @ 60% off there.

[VINCE: Women’s Sale: Women’s Collection: Tops, Shirts, Blouses: Tops, Tees, Tanks, Long Sleeve, Short Sleeve & More](http://www.vince.com/sale/sale-for-women/icat/saleforwomen/)

I just went on the Nordstrom website just for the heck of it. I clicked on the sale tab, then clicked on petite and then clicked on jeans. They listed 208 pairs of jeans on sale. I did not look that carefully, but saw a wide variety. I saw NYDJ (not your daughters jeans) in a colored straight leg for $54.98, half price of original price of $110. Came in several colors. Again, look there to see if they have regular blue jeans with a bit of stretch on sale in size petite. They will mail the jeans to your home for free! And you can also return them for free if they don’t fit!

Jeans that have a bit of stretch are waaay more comfortable than the old cotton style.

Try J Jill petite, Ann Taylor petite, Talbots petite, but look for sales! Good luck.

I just looked at the jeans at nordstrom and right now it doesn’t look like they have much on sale. I’m petite also. I have never found a pair at target that I’ve been happy with,

I have expensive jeans, a pair of 7’s that are great and also pairs from jc Penney and everywhere in between. It seems like I’m always on the search for a great pair of petite jeans.

This is what I’ve found. Nordstrom-like jag jeans. Tried on the pair that ek bought and liked them a lot. They are pretty form fitting and I personally like that. Have a pair of straight legs, very nice, a little roomy in the thighs. NYDJ’s-have 2 pairs. I like them ok. Both were bought at 6pm. Very stretchy, bought them a size smaller than I usually do to combat the spandex.
Lands end, have a pair of the fit 1, actually they fit great, ankle length so I am not wearing them now. I also have a pair of ankle length from talbots that I also like but I think they only look good with flats and no socks, not right for now.
Penny’s-I have a pair of jcp brand and a pair of Ana brand. Both skinny, I like the jcp better as they are more mid waisted than the the Ana’s. Price was great, I’m not thrilled that they both seem to stretch out a lot. Have to wash them more as they are baggy after I wear them.
My 7’s are boyfriend jeans. Bought them 1/2 price, which I wouldn’t spent a ton for boyfriend jeans. I used to love a brand called worn, but they don’t seem to make them in petite anymore. I also have jeans fro jjill, I think they are 25% off right now.

I’m not a fan of the brands they have at kohls. Just nothing in my style or fit.

This applies to this thread as well as others but I often wish that posters would include a price point when asking for product advice. I know I am a sale shopper myself and don’t have an extravagant budget. For instance, $50 on a pair of jeans would be about my limit. M

I always feel bad and frustrated when posters get advice that runs such a wide price range cause if you can’t afford it or just don’t want to spend that much, much of the advice becomes not very helpful. Do you know what I mean???

Something to think about when any of us are posting about product advice. Kind of like on Say Yes To The Dress - share if you, have a budget and what it is or let us know if your budget is unlimited!!! :)

Oops double post

Ok, ladies, let’s move to the other end of the bell curve. I’m very tall (just under 6 feet) and thin (140-145 lbs) but have a waist and hips. Don’t want a waistline that grazes my c-section scar, but too vain to slide into those waist-hugging mom jeans. I wear boot cut jeans in fall and winter when I’m mostly in (flat, obviously) boots, but as the weather warms up I find myself in pursuit of that elusive pair of slimming straight leg or cropped jeans I can wear with flats. I’m over 50, so the skinny and toothpick lines will hit my who are you kidding tripwire. Any advice for finding flattering straight jeans for a tall dressing-young-but-not-too-young woman?

Re: price. My go-to bootcuts are AG Angels, shockingly expensive but fit like a dream. I’m reconciled to the idea that with my atypical morph I have to do some damage to my credit card.

Abasket, every pair of jeans I posted about I got on sale for less than $50 except for the 7’s which were more. The jag jeans were $40, the NYDJ’S were from 6pm and I think one was $40 and the other $32. I bought the lands end jeans for $32 and the talbots for about the same. The jeans from penny’s were $30 and $15. I look for bargains and shop around. I wait until things go on sale. I’m not sure sometimes if that’s a good thing though. Sometimes I should buy less, but more quality. I have been trying to find the perfect pair of jeans but I can’t figure it out until I’ve worn them a couple of times. Hence why I have so many pairs.

Though tall, I am not as tall as you, 3Trees. I do have the long legs. Joe’s and Paige most recently for me. I’d ignore what they call them and search for pants you like and think will fit well. I always try clothing in person. These were found at Nordstrom Rack.

Deb922, I get that and I’ve had that problem before. Only more recently am I willing to pay a little more to get ONE pair I really love and just wear them over and over! Those were my $50 pair!!!

But myself aside, I just think its helpful for people to mention their budget. Some people here can spend $200 on a dress, some can only spend $200 on their wardrobe for the year!! It’s all fine, but I feel we can misguide people if we don’t know their budget expectations .

Thanks Deb T. There is a Joes outlet not far from me. Maybe I’ll make it a destination shopping event next time my (equally tall) daughter is home.

I’ve given up on jeans. This year, I don’t think I wore any, except to work in the yard.
My spring and summer go-to’s have been khakis and linen slacks, both long and cropped, and black and gray slacks in different fabrics, and colorful cords for fall and winter. Love JCrew cords in multiple colors. Maybe at 62, I just don’t feel jeans are all that flattering, and they seem a little boring. They used to be a staple, but now I don’t miss them.

I work at a Levi’s store and I (as others have mentioned) really recommend our Curve ID jeans. It measures the differential between your seat and natural waist to find a jean that fits your shape as well as your size.

I couldn’t tell you how many times my customers say “Wow! I’ve never had jeans that fit me this well before!” If you’re not near a Levi’s store, it’ll be harder to find Curve ID jeans because for some reason they don’t seem to carry them as much in department stores, but I know some of my customers have definitely mentioned that they liked the “Perfectly Slimming” 512s (as mentioned here).

As for men, I still recommend the tried and true 505, which is my personal favorite. :)

Jeans are my go-to most days and I’ve tried on so many. I’m just under 5’3" and wear a 28 or a 4 and my favorites are J Brand. IMO, a dark wash straight leg midrise jean looks great. I do prefer a bit of spandex (even 1%) but, like others, some end up baggy after a few hours and some don’t. My J Brand jeans don’t become baggy and neither do my Sevens (I have a pair of boot cut and a pair of skinny in those for a bit of variety) – those are my second favorite. I also like my Paige jeans because of the fit and comfort but they don’t hold up as well and do become a bit baggy. The only other jeans I’ve found that I’ve been happy with are a pair from Gap. I find those at Talbotts, Ann Taylor, Banana as well as Calvin Klein jeans made of a thicker denim that just aren’t all that comfortable and don’t fit as well (haven’t checked in a while so maybe it’s different now). Don’t think I’ve ever bought a pair of jeans at Macys. I do have a pair of David Kahn jeans that look great first thing in the morning but they stretch out pretty quickly.

In terms of price, I’m a frugal shopper but seem to have more expensive taste in jeans. Most of mine come from Neiman Marcus last call when they’re having a sale and/or they have a 40% off coupon. Don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $80/pair and have bought them for as low as $35. These designers can also be found at Nordstrom Rack and, on rare occasions TJMaxx or Marshalls. I think of it as a sport :)

One more thing…a number of years ago my now 22 year old D pointed out that a pair of jeans I was wearing was baggy in the back in the thigh area. She indicated that was a definite ‘don’t’. Since then I’ve been much more aware of making sure that my jeans are form-fitting there. I do need to pay to have new jeans altered sometimes–both in the thigh area as well as in the middle of the back/waist as there’s frequently a big gap there.

I just tried on a pair of GAP 1969 “always skinny” jeans. They are a nice slim leg and are not baggy in the back thigh area. They are however a bit lower in the waist than I am used to so I may have to add new underwear to my shopping list:p I need them a bit longer so I am going to order the extra longs online…and voila!!! They are on sale for 30% off online through 3/5/2013

^^^^i have those and LOVE them! Have wore nothing else since I got them in December. They are feel great on my legs and do not stretch out. Love them.

PSA: Levi’s now has 501s (100% cotton) for WOMEN! Including white jeans. I haven’t tried them, and it looks like they only have 32" length. Levi’s has frequent sales, so I wouldn’t buy at list price.

I’ve purchased Style & Co. jeans which is Macy’s own brand. I got them on deep discount. They are slimming so mid/high rise. I have a small waist but huge thighs so they work very, very well for me. A woman with an apple or inverted triangle shape would be hugely uncomfortable.

I have two pairs of Jag jeans, and I would say they are more generous in the thighs than many brands. I had to take in the waist of the pull-ons, but most waists gap on me.

The latest thing is boyfriend jeans, esp. super baggy and slouchy, with the crotch hanging down by a couple of inches and rolled at the hem – as in Gap’s Sexy Boyfriend jean sized up one, two, or even three sizes. My legs are too short for this look so I am passing on this look, but just a warning on the latest trend. . .

Jeans and dress pants are among the most difficult items in which to find a good fit. Many people swear by premium denim. I’ve tried on only a few pairs; makes me think they are sized for a different body type and pocketbook.

I do love jeans, and have more pairs than I would ever confess to owning. (I rarely got to wear them growing up, my dad didn’t “approve”-think that has anything to do with it?!!) I never pay full price unless I feel it’s “reasonable”, though that only applies to me. My D usually got a pass on mom’s rule there because she is so tall and hard to fit. I fall into the almost tall category, meaning regular lengths tend to be just a little short, probably another reason I’m always on the hunt for that one pair that runs a little bit longer. Much easier these days, than when I was a young adult!

Lucky brand is working well for me these days, I have found them at Costco the past couple of years for $30. One of the best fits I have found in years, with no gap around the waist, which tends to be my other problem. They will stretch out a bit after long wearing, but not too bad. I refuse to disclose how many of these I own!!! I also have some 7s, also found at Costco, that I think look good and I love the denim. (Okay, I have TWO pair of the 7s, one long for boots and heels, one I hemmed for flats.) The waist rides a little lower than my ideal, but they have a bit of give in them so that compensates. By far the most I ever paid for jeans for myself, maybe a little over half of the retail price.

I’ve had good luck with JAG jeans in the past, but less so lately. I have one pair of Christopher Blue (sale rack purchase, of course) that are fabulous, though I’m not quite sure they are truly jeans. They have that look, but not true denim in my book. My go to travel pants, very comfortable with the perfect amount of give and a bit more “polished” than classic denim.

I also have some Calvin Klein, very lightweight denim, so my “summer jeans”. Easy to find on sale at Macy’s, and the longer length is okay for me with flats or flip flops. A bit stretchy.

I’m going to have to make a trip to the Levi’s store, I think, as I’ve had a longing to get back to my roots! Thanks for the info on Curve ID. Bought my early jeans (Levi’s) from the men’s department as that was the only way I could get them long enough!
