From what we heard in the past, CWRU admitted many NJ kids as far as I know. It may not be many per school but most of “above average district in NJ” will likely have few admitted and 1-2 attending. I heard that CWRU likes NJ kids especially those with strong music background. We are also from NJ and my son is current freshman.
Does anyone know if CWR stacks its own scholarships? My daughter got a generous university scholarship but it is still a little out of price range for us. She wants to apply for the FIRST robotics scholarship they offer as well, but I’m not sure if they would add it to what she was already offered, or just reduce the university scholarship.
Same. My kid has higher scores and practically straight A+'s (only 2 A’s, rest A+) in highest rigor courses. Liked by teachers. NMSF. Other honors/awards and national things I won’t mention for privacy. We visited and that was a plane ride/hotel/uber, etc. Deferred. Older sibling was admitted EA and declined, so IDK if CWRU holding that against C25.
My D25 is deferred since Dec 20. Our high school’s mid year report will be out on Jan 15. I suppose CWRU will need to see her mid year report/grades in order to be considered for RD. Correct? Thanks.
I’m not sure if they ask for mid year grades, but my S25 was also deferred and in the portal there is a section where deferred applicants are given 3 “optional” questions to complete including a why Case statement, and opportunities to add extra-curricular activities and academic accomplishments. It’s due Jan 22nd.
The EA waitlist turned us off, to be honest. Our S25 Engineering applicant got into comparable schools (or ranked considerably higher) that would cost the same or less, even with the significant merit-based scholarship. The change to ED or denied seemed like a bait and switch and soured us, despite originally really liking CWRU.
Optional short answer: Imagine your future. How will you utilize the resources and opportunities available at Case Western Reserve University to realize that future?
Thank you. You meant this optional short answer? My D25 only sent back the intent to stay for RD. She didn’t answer this question. Does the reply to this really matter much?
That’s a great question as I don’t think we can ever know how much admission’s officers weigh optional assigments. My S25 decided to do it because this is one of his top choices and figured it could only help not hurt.
Thank you. My D25 sent back a reply to indicate she would like to continue with RD on Dec 20. Do you think she can still do the optional answer before the Jan 22? That’s two submissions.
Yes, I believe there are two different steps, one is to indicate that you want to stay in the running for RD, and the second is a form to update on the portal.
Did anyone receive responses yet for ED2 application after EA got deferred?
I am curious too.
Kid got a nice little welcome package in the mail today
Congratulations!! Do you mind sharing any details? Stats, Major, EDI/EA/EDII?
Package just had a notebook, socks, map, etc. in it. But nice to get something official in the mail.
Posted stats above: Applied EA, MechE, University Scholarship, 4.27UW/4.98W (A+=4.33/5.33), 36 ACT, 11 APs (14 exams), several post-AP classes (e.g., MVC, OChem) NMSF, ranked 1st, 4 year varsity/club athlete, robotics leadership, extensive volunteering.
Question on “Andrew and Eleanor Squire Scholarship”:
It says: Finalists will be invited to a required competition in March to determine the winners.
Does anybody know what is the ‘required competition in March’? Is it on-campus or virtual meeting / interview?
My DS is hoping for a PPSP interview too For PPSP, this was his top choice. Wishing everyone in a similar boat, well for tomorrow.
Any one has received ED2 results yet? I thought they will notify us in in two weeks after we switched to ED2.
Supposedly in early Jan.
My D25 received her acceptance this past weekend. She is elated!
