Case Western Reserve Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

Congratulations! Was it ED2

Thank you, yes, it was.

I thought ED2 is yet to be released. Did everyone get it? I have not received so far.

Any results?

Good luck everyone!

S25 is accepted, University Scholarship of $30,500 per year.

As parents we do not focus on the tuition/scholarship… we want the kiddo to pick their first choice where they will be passionate.

For Biomedical Engineering S25 top three are CWRU / UVA / Pitt-Honors with yearly out of pocket being 50 / 80 / 20 … so these are all in play … going to be a tough decision for him!

Good luck everyone!

That’s really awesome you can afford to let your kid choose any of their acceptances without regard to cost! I hope he appreciates your ability & willingness to cover his undergraduate degree!

Oh make no mistake… it ā€œhurtsā€ to come up with that cash… BUT … higher education (in a practical field) is something so innate to our being it is just something who we are.

My Aunt told me, ā€œIf you do a good job raising you’re kid… they’ll thank you someday. If you did a great job, they’ll be about 35 years old when they thank you.ā€

Well, my son went from deferred EA to waitlisted RD. We are disappointed as we’d planned a spring break trip to visit midwest and south colleges he was admitted to, and now I don’t think we’ll make the 10 hour off course visit to Case, since the waitlist odds are pretty low. I really thought he’d get in! Puts us in a predicament since if he does get pulled off the waitlist we’ll have just been in Indiana and probably unlikely to be able to make a trip to see if he likes it. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be! Congrats to all that got in!

Uggh… so much PTSD for me as a parent getting a waitlist/defer/reject for my kiddos… no doubt one of the schools they get into will offer a prosperous and rewarding education… but it is brutal.

CWRU in Madrid
I haven’t heard anyone mention it, so maybe this program isn’t being offered for fall 2025. Does this program still exist?

My S19 opted for this program in fall 24 and I came here to warn against it, but maybe it’s not being offered right now. There were a lot of angry families at the end of the semester, so CWRU might be revamping it!

He applied EA for fall 2024 and was given the options of (1) guaranteed admission for fall 24 if he switched to ED2, (2) admission to ā€œCWRU in Madridā€ where he would study in Spain fall 24 and come to Cleveland in spring 25, or (3) admission for spring 25 if he didn’t choose either.

He chose option (2). He resented being asked to convert to ED2 so did not - it felt like playing games.

I’m curious to hear more about where CWRU Madrid went wrong?

kind of you to come back & warn others!

Was this through Verto? I’ve seen a few posts where kid was deferred from Case and granted entry fall 2026 or spring 2026 if they spent the first year or one semester abroad through verto.

I’m happy to share but I didn’t want to hijack the EA/ED thread if it isn’t currently being offered.

CWRU did a complete de-brief with families after the semester ended so I would hope to see improvements if they offer it in the future.

They were admitted as official CWRU students, but for their first semester they were enrolled in regular classes (taught in English) at the top university in Spain, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. It was through CWRU, not an outside institution.

Main concerns were:

(1) CWRU advisors didn’t understand the difficulty of the classes offered, and they advised students to enroll in UC3M math and science classes that were much too advanced. Due to the European secondary school structure, the classes covered much more material than their American counterparts, and first-semester American students struggled and failed. There was a LOT of failure, and these are high-performing smart students.

(2) CWRU in Madrid students paid full Cleveland tuition + room and board, but did not receive the services and supports they would have had in the US. All the offices and tutoring centers and special services CWRU is famous for providing? There was none of that. Failing a class? It was nearly impossible to get help from TAs or during office hours from professors, and there was no other help available. Academically the students were on their own.

(3) Students lived off-campus in private apartments with no resident support staff, and CWRU staff back in Cleveland was difficult to get ahold of. There was nobody from CWRU in Spain with them, but there was also no supervision or support at all. This worked out fine for some kids, but others struggled with health and making good decisions. Nobody was badly hurt, but some students had a hard time getting medical care, and my son reports other students went off the rails.

Worse, when students and families expressed their concerns, CWRU administrators repeatedly blamed the students for not working hard enough, and gaslit them about the classes being equivalent to their CWRU counterparts. Many of the CWRU in Madrid cohort feel betrayed by the school. They paid full rate but were second-class citizens.

Edit: there were 39 students.

No, it is (was?) a CWRU study abroad program.

Once accepted, I definitely had my kid consider cost!

NO DOUBT!!! That is going to happen… we now sort of let S25 settle on the two feels most comfortable with … and no doubt cost will come into the equation!!!
