I’m generally not a fan of painted wood, but this kitchen would benefit greatly from white ceilings. The ceiling clashes with the rest… but oh well. Someone else’s not @coralbrook’s executive decision.
I don’t mind the ceiling with the cabinets, but I don’t think it’s that great with the flooring. Maybe mom and dad will change their minds down the road.
Mom and dad can pay someone else to make any changes. @coralbrook has done an amazing job even though slob son has made it even more challenging than it should have been.

I was just going to write the same thing. This wood ceiling doesn’t fit at all with the rest of the gorgeous kitchen. The slob kid has terrible taste!
I like the lighter color island.
Charge the mom for all the crates for her kid’s junk and don’t label. And don’t sort. In other words, if there is trash mixed in with his clothes (but not food trash), just toss it in. You don’t have time to sort his mess.

Actually, it has been wonderful this week because Son is on vacation with Mom and for some reason the other kid is out of town so we can get things done without working around their daily messes. But get this… when son and girlfriend showed up at the house the night before they were all leaving on this vacation to Greece, I asked him who was taking care of the dog, the iguana, the crickets and the fish while he was gone?? He mumbled something about how the other kid was supposed to be staying there to take care of the pets. But that kid was out of town and now not returning until Aug 24 (he still has not returned).
He had absolutely no plan for taking care of the pets, etc while they were gone!!! And leaving in less than 8 hrs. One of my crew actually volunteered to stay in the house to take care of the dog and pets while they were gone. What the hey?? did this kid have a plan at all??? How irresponsible. And now, my guy’s 4 day stay has turned into a 9 day stay because noone is showing up to take care of the dog. As far as I know he is not getting any compensation for this and I think it is asking a little much from us.
But someone is in for a shock when they get back. I had a long talk with the Son and told him he had at least 2 days of cleaning to get the kitchen put back together (he has stuff all over the pool patio with his ‘outdoor’ kitchen). Now I find out they are not coming back until Sunday and Mom flies in next Tuesday. I am going to go to all this effort to get the house pristine (refusing to go into the kid’s bathroom, laundry room or bedrooms) and there is still a mess everywhere
And the most annoying part is that when we started, someone had stripped all the sheets and bedspreads off the master bed. I think the other kid was actually staying in her room, even though there are plenty of other bedrooms. As I put the room back together last week I could not find sheets or bedspread anywhere. I asked son where are they??? We found the sheets all wadded up in a ball with dirty underwear in the bottom of a closet but the bedspread is completely missing! I handed dirty sheets to the son and told him he needed to wash those before his Mom came back and get the bed back together. Pretty sure she is going to walk in to empty mattresses on her bed.

Step 1: pet sitting invoice for overnight hours given to son and cc Mom
Step 2: let go your very natural desire to have house looking pristine. Mom knowingly let son and friends have free rein with no care for how it would impinge on work. She has ceded the opportunity to enjoy a lovely clean home.

I hope you are taking pictures of his mess and documenting. I have a sneaking suspicion that when Mom confronts slob, he is going to try to blame you and your crew.

Guess she doesn’t plan to use that outdoor kitchen. Are you moving that stuff, or leaving it for junior to clean up when he feels like it?
