kudos to whoever actually reads all of this…and please excuse my horrible spelling

thanks a lot, honesty appreciated (i can take it, i hope…)

bump…anyone??

You should get in but your writing score is pretty low for OOS. I’d say 80% in.

yea i feel confident…
but i applied ED to Duke and everyone I knew told me i was gonna get in and i got rejected…
i knew i was on the border i thought i’d get in or be deffered not striaght up rejected…
so im less confident in my app lol, if that changes anything…

bump…
10char

at the chance threads again i see…
not sure…how weak was your GPA junior year…
the c plus in precalc certainly doesn’t help…
id say decent shot…better have killer essays and recs though

BUMP!!!
10char

Your EC’s are sensational. Your GPA is a little worrisome. What’s your Weighted GPA and your class rank?

uw gp is 3.6ish? maybe 3.7 or 8 if you include senior year grades (first quarter)
my school does not rank…is my gpa too low for UVA?

It’s a bit low for OOS but your EC’s make up for it. IMHO you are an interesting candidate so I’d say you have a good chance.

it is a little low…think im good enough? its been a tough year for my school and it seems schools are being more conservative with their admits

bump…maybe dean j wants to comment! :)

bump anyone! my thread cant be that boring! i take this as a good sign though… uva students don’t really use these college sites like other ivy league schools, there prob out having too much fun

bump
10char

I typically don’t chance oos students cuz I don’t have any hard data but 3.6-3.7 is typically, based on Naviance Data, on the low side for instate students.

Who is K Bier?

lol well if its low for in state students it must be really low of OOS lol…

and K Bier is my twin brother (everyone catches that wow)
i had some rough patches in my grades junior year, but senior year is near straight a’s
freshmen and soph are pretty solid
if you weight first semester senior year it will prob be 3.7 3.8 ish unweighted
so far weighted grades for senior year is 4.2

think i have a shot? im also planing on majoring in physics if that changes anything

dude you’re fine dont worry about it. awesome ECS more then make up for the borderline GPA. seriously dont worry.

just a suggestion: Find a way to mention that K Bier is your bro. The reason “everyone catches that” is b/c A lot of ppl get help from parents or relatives in order to be published and your impressive list, which would imo be a great hook for a physics major, should make that clear in order to avoid any misinterpretation by an adcom.

Good luck.

i was looking at this thread for quite some time trying to figure out who the hell k bier was and where it came from lol. Found it! I can see how everyone sees that K Bier is your brother (since you have the same last names and you’ll be submitting something in your app with family info) but I agree with vistany. Just put a little asterisk somewhere and mention he is your brother. Make it easier on the adcoms.

haha db123 you shoulda commented it then lol!

and fallacy (and vistany and db),
everyone has been telling me that, and i applied to Duke ED, along with my twin bro and 4 other kids from my school
and my app was so great for Duke, not just in terms of quality but also what Duke looks for (they had two supplemental essays, one of which was to tell them about research experience you’ve had!!)
the other kids from my school who applied were a little weaker in terms of SAT and GPA, yet we all got denied, not even deffered
and my school, a public school in central nj (east brunswick high school), which is pretty reputable but not like an amazing private, did **** for ED this year…
something like 20+ kids applied Ed and almost all got denied
2 or three kids to columbia all denied
6 or 7 kids to penn all denied
4 kids to MIT all denied or deffered
1 kid to brown denied
5 kids to duke denied
1 kid to dartmouth denied (allthough his app was crap)

so it was a slap in the face to lower our standard, and now im nervous i can’t get into any semi competitive schoool (i.e. UVA)

think my science background will help since UVA gets a lot of social science apps?
