I so appreciate that you are not all doom and gloom like some of the posters on this board. However, I really don’t think without more context anyone can say that this student has a “good chance” at Georgia Tech. It is a tough admit especially if the student is male and from the greater Atlanta area. We are in Georgia and our private school college counselor considers it to be a reach for just about everyone. I can look at the SCOIR scattergrams for our school and see lots of deferral/wait-list and outright rejections of students with 1500 plus SAT’s and A averages. Add to that - we have no idea where this student stands compared to other students at his school or how many students from his school are typically admitted. For our school with a class of about 90, there are usually 10 Georgia Tech acceptances and all of them with the exception of an occasional recruited athlete have taken BC calculus or higher. Op hasn’t indicated which AP calc their student has taken - but Tech really wants to see BC calculus if it is offered. I’ll also add that objectively 11 APs is rigorous but at many of the high performing public schools in our area the top students take 15 to 20 APs in addition to distance MVC and linear algebra at Georgia Tech.
We have no idea whether this student has taken the most rigorous schedule possible at his school. UGA is a much more likely admit, but even that may not be a slam dunk depending on how this student stacks up to other students from his school. This student may be near the top of his class or he may be in the middle. As I mentioned above,UGA has already released in state EA decisions. Most kids who are aiming higher and using UGA as a fallback already have an acceptance and are not scrambling to find safeties this late in the game.
