I just feel really guilty about all this guys. I don’t know why since I know Loyola is a multi million dollar university. I just feel kinda bad since the advisors and support staff didn’t know I was going.
You want to study ChemE. You are in a university system that offers ABET accredited ChemE. Loyola did not offer the major at all - made zero sense since you had UMN and others.
So to me you’re in a much better place than Loyola.
Plan your last two years financially at UP now so you are not caught in a mess where you can not continue in two years.
Yes. It’s placement is better than most in the Mid Atlantic. For ChemE ofc nothing can beat UMN but it’s up there with VTech, Wisconsin, etc. Obviously not at Abington but if you do well you’ll move to UP and graduate from PSU UP which is what matters.
Use my post above to request whether you might join Honors classes or Schreyer, emphasizing it’s for the academic challenge.
Congrats! Check out the Chaiken Center for Student Success
If I want to transfer to places like ND, Vandy, WUSTL, USC, Umich, and GT (Not HYPSM tier schools), what SAT score do I need to be competitive? I verified that I can take it out of high school and will take it later this month before school starts. I know first-year GPA will be the main factor, but I’m just wondering.
If you want ChemE, why aren’t you looking at Delaware, Minnesota, etc. they trump most these schools.
How will you pay for $80k Michigan or the $90k for the others ?
Since you were able to find out about SAT, why don’t you ask them their transfer stats for engineering - and why don’t you find out if they are affordable ?
Why do you continue to dismiss your actions that have led you to where you are today which is clearly where you don’t want to be ?
You are looking to repeat your exact actions of this past year.
Please wake up from this rank-it is obsession.
You could not go to college because you could not afford to or you turned down the outstanding schools you could.
What is your plan to ensure it doesn’t happen again ?
Well, I’m using those schools as examples. Also, it’s not the end of the world if I can’t go somewhere if it’s too expensive. It’s worth trying your hand. I’m not deadset on Chem E. I’m thinking of choosing between Chem, Biomed, or ECE. The plan to ensure this doesn’t happen again is to stay at Penn State or Transfer back to UMN, which are relatively affordable compared to other options. The risk is low. I’m just exploring potential options.
You are OOS for PSU.
You have a great scholarship this year. Will it continue at UP ? It’s tuition, room and board is near $60k today.
PSU isn’t known for merit. UMN is but is it as a transfer ?
Things to look at. Same things to look at with the others as well.
If you started UM this year as an example - it’s high 70s and the last two years go up.
So is it worth applying vs a school you can possibly afford ?
Best of luck

I would not bother re-taking the SAT after you start college. The SAT is an exam meant for HS students and I don’t think any admissions officer will be impressed by a somewhat higher score recieved by a college student.
IMO it is better to focus on doing your best academically, getting involved in ECs you care about, developing relationships with professors, and eventually finding an affordable college to finish your education.
I agree for transfers you should focus on college performance, both “hard” stuff like grades, and “soft” stuff like professor networking.
I note I believe the vast majority of transfers are more lateral transfers. Transfers to significantly higher-ranked/more-selective colleges are relatively rare.
I also note a lot of people who were thinking they would want to transfer, and then they do really well, realize that doing really well at their original college is going to provide them with all the opportunities that they need. So it doesn’t make sense to transfer.
OP it is your life. You have gotten lots of advice over almost 600 posts. In my opinion, when your motivations and decision making abilities are being challenged after such a prolonged dialogue you may be best served to seek counsel elsewhere.
Hopefully you can find others who can support you in light of the decisions you have made rather than trying to get you to admit your perceived mistakes.
This is about you (a high school kid who is trying their best). I admire your persistence and determination.
As OP has made a decision for this year, I’m closing this thread. If next year, the OP is still interested in transferring, they are welcomed to start a new thread.
Best of luck to you at PSU!
