Chance me ED 2 Boston College, US[+Canada] citizen from small Canadian town weak ECs[4.0 UW, Test optional]

So I took my first Practice ACT on the ACT website and got 32 composite-(31 E, 29, M, 34 R, 32 S). Is this good if I’m taking the test on Feb 10th? I don’t know much about ACT.

Keep doing those practice tests. Look at the items you didn’t get correct, and try to figure out why you chose the answer you did instead of the correct one…IOW…problem solve your errors.

So, I’m not quite sure how to DM. When I click on your profile, it says 'Public Profile Hidden." Sorry, I’m pretty new to this website.

You can graduate from UBC at low cost (as a Canada citizen), then (as a US citizen) seek employment in the US.

UBC is one of the well known universities in Canada, so you should not be worried about any school prestige issues with a UBC degree. The chemical and biological engineering bachelor’s degree program is accredited by Engineers Canada, which has a bilateral mutual recognition agreement with ABET, so it should be accepted in US situations that ordinarily look for ABET accreditation.

Just to be clear: I don’t think you have a good chance at an Ivy+ university. But no one does and you have a pretty diverse list (especially if you include honors colleges), so why not apply to, say, Brown and ?WashU, once you’re done with your BC app, your ASU/UA apps, Colgate, and Holy Cross?
DO secure the other apps first though.

Does anyone have an idea as to what percent of BC’s first-year class is filled ED?

50%

Per CDs 1260 Ed accepted. Even if 1200 enrolled and likely more, but 2516 enrolled - well I based on 1260

Good luck.

Just a tiny update: my social security number has been sorted out, and I applied to U of A, ASU, and FSU today. I plan to apply to Pitt for cross-registration at CMU and PSU. This should cover my safeties so I can focus on reaches.

Congrats.

What do you mean cross registration?

Are you in at Pitt?

Don’t you apply when you’re going to take a course at a participating school, but not ahead of enrolling and attending or what am I missing?

Psu isn’t a safety even if you used the strategy I detailed above, because you’re on the “admitted on a space available basis” admission plan now. It’s unrelated to your level or achievement, simply related to some majors already being nearly full in the EA round.
They’re still sorting out the EA students, then they’ll get to the Priority students (who applied by Dec1). By the time they get to your application very few slots will remain. You may well be one of the lucky few but that’s not a definition of safety.

Did FSU accept your application TO because you apply from Canada?

Did you apply to the Honors colleges at ASU and UA? They make a big difference in the learning experience since AZ has been cutting funding for its public universities tremendously and continuously and the weight of it is being carried by undergrads not in honors.

@tsbna44 : I think OP means they are applying to Pitt for the cross registration opportunity.

What does this mean? Are you saying the BC incoming class is 2516?

Yes, but that for class of 2025…1260 ED admits, class size 2,516. Pretty old data, 3 cycles ago.

Last year for class of 2027, college kickstart reported 1330 admitted in ED, and class size was 2335, about 57% of the class admitted in ED.

Meet BC's Class of 2027.

Yes. 2516 enrolled. They had 1260 ED acceptance. So I’m
Hypothesizing about 50% of class comes via ED.

CDS are all old but gives us a starting place. At 57%, even moreso that direction.

What I meant was the reason I applied to Pitt is so I would have the opportunity to do cross-registration with CMU.

Got it - Pitt on its own is a fantastic school.

Do you think I have a good shot at getting in?

Pitt - yes. Not as good as odds as two months ago but good. The sooner the better. Merit unlikely this late.

Apply for Pitt. Not because you might take a class at CMU. That’s not a reason to apply.

Your diploma will say Pitt.

And again - look deeper than the name. That appears to be your strategy. You will be somewhere four years, day after day. You want to be at the right place!!

Good luck.

Acceptance rate of 49%. SAT score between 1280–1470 or an ACT score of 29–33 according to US News. I would guess yes, you will get in. Your SAT puts you in the middle and your 97% average is hard to beat.

A negative is that 75% of students on Niche say profs put a lot of work into their teaching (would be nice if it were higher) but the modal student gives the university a 4/5.

So I just realized that I could be screwed. My overall GPA is terrible. The reason mine is considered 3.95+ at my school is that we don’t count grade 9 grades in my province. Now, they don’t even give grade 9s number grades. However, if they were factored in, my UW GPA would be about 3.65. I felt okay about it because, on our transcripts, there’s a note saying, “Grade 9 does not count toward graduation credit.” I’m worried colleges will overlook this and throw out my application if they recalculate GPAs, including grade 9. I feel hopeless about it since Grade 9 was a disaster due to COVID-19 regulations, yet I can’t do anything about my grades. I’m really worried I won’t even get into places like ASU now.

Stop worrying.

If you meet the minimum requirements (# of classes required in each subject), they are both safeties at your gpa.

You are getting yourself in a tizzy over nothing.

Others are reaches but that was known already.

The schools will analyze your transcript in the way they will.

It’ll be fine.
