There are people on here who will read your essay and give you feedback - you really should take advantage of this. Just don’t post the essay anywhere on line - you’d be amazed at how fast it would find its way into a plagiarism checker.
You don’t need to bring up Hillary Clinton. She’s famous in the US (she was the wife of a governor who became president and she was a recent presidential candidate) but you don’t need to discuss her. However did any Nigerian or West African girl of note attend Wellesley? THAT would be more interesting and would show more research. In addition, what she/they did could show a path you could take (whereas becoming president of the US isn’t a legitimate objective for you )
Yes. i got on this essay so late and then re-did it yesterday night. I’m finding a “forum” (or that thing that you mentioned earlier right now"
ok Thank you. I thought about posting it here and then getting feedback…stupid idea i know, but i’ll be submitting it to an essay reviewer right about now, thank you!
I tried look for WA alumnis, but I only found two: Priscilla Badusi, who graudate with honors as a chemistry student and Onyeka Onwenu, a well known singer, songer, actress, activist. Prisciall graduated in 2021 and I found very limited into about her. Onyeka Onwenu tho, she’s late. But she shaped Nigerian pop in the 90s and was a very prominent figure. As for how I will weave her into My why Wellesley essay, she was an activist for women’s rights in Nigeria (which we needed and still need lol) and she carried out a lot of philanthrophic duties when it came to women’s right, education and social issues.
I don’t have dreams of becoming an actress or anything, however, I do hope to own an all girls high academic leading institute in my later years here in Nigeria, and a special need school too (there’s mass deficiency of those and if they are, they’re pricy so majority don’t get access to them). I would also like to be an activist in general for women’s rights in Nigeris (ik that’s far fetched) so i think tha’s where ill make connections. Thank you
Apologies for not reading this thread carefully, but has Washington and Lee University been suggested yet? It has accounting and business, and just announced it has gone need blind for international admissions. Of course it meets full need generously as well.

My impression is that OP is thinking of Wellesley or W&L (favoring Wellesley, hence ED1) and researching Denison and Smith.
W&L would be a very good ED2 college.
Hello there. thank you so much for contributing to the thread and its no problem that you didn’t read everything - it’s long and dwindling. Yes, A very nice unparticular man (pun intended ) suggested the university so I will be applying there ED2 if i get rejected from my ED1 choice: Wellesley. Thank you so much for your contribution, It is really appreciated!
Thank you so much. I’ve accessed the forum already so hopefully the person I PMd responds to me on time

yes
that was exactly what I was thinking. Idk why I am still on UMiami’s list, or rather, why its still on my list, but its there. Also Holy Cross (though I’m afraid my lack of interest cough will be what stops me from being accepted. I do have intentions to phone the admissions office but I’m not quite sure what to say when I do so; suggestions and advice would really be appreciated); UofRochester, Babson, Brandeis, Berea, U of Richmond, Clark Uni and U of Rochester. I’m very worried about my lack of safety schools on my list. Thing with safeties tho is they never have enough aid with ther high acceptance rate so idek.
You asked for my college list in one of our earlier PMs, along with my activities as they are in my common app, I could swear I had at least sent the activities list, only to realize that was my sleepy eye talking and I had sent nothing. It’s there now tho and my college list is here (along with Wellesley, Denison, Smith and W&L). Thank you so much for the support, it is really appreciated!
Interest is easy: “joing the mailing list”+ name of college → enter your email-> check your email every day and click on links of interest in each email.
For each college on your list.
You can also register for virtual tours and virtual admission Q/A though for Wellesley it’s probably too late. There’s still time for other colleges on your list.
There’s no safety for an international student who needs a lot of financial aid. Only highly selective colleges offer full rides and they admit very very few of the talented students who apply from all around the world.
Where are you applying EA?
I neede this bad Thank you, i’m just going to do all of them right now so whatever mails they have can start dropping
For wellesley, I watched a campus tour on Youtube so…idk I hope the fact that i am applying ED shows interest enough, i am also already on their maliing list (if that’s what its called when colleges send you emails)
Thank you for this. I was thinking about public schools but siince I may get in wo any form of aid whatsoever, I’m not going to do that to myself
Clark Uni (although I’m not quite certain because they meet full aid for ED1 and 2 applicants, U of Richmond, UMiami, Berea (EA2), Babson or Brandeis, if you could help me decide between which one, it would mean a lot
Also Smith, not sure whether to go EA or Rd because of aid
This is the unfortunate truth.
That said, I do think you can shade the odds a bit more in your favor (albeit only a bit) by picking colleges that seem like a good fit for you personally. And I think Wellesley given your personal story is a great example of such a good fit.
And in fact, if I was thinking about colleges to add in your circumstances, I would certainly be thinking about adding more women’s colleges.
This is just a quick survey of the CDS responses of some other women’s colleges as to International aid. I am going to do total International aid budget and average amount per award. You are obviously looking for these to both be as high as possible, although you could think a bit about budget in relationship to the size of the college too, so I will add undergrad enrollment. I’ll also start with Wellesley and Smith to give you a basis for comparison:
Wellesley $7.0M, $86K (2316)
Smith $11.1M, $79K (2489)
Barnard $2.8M $43K (3183)
Bryn Mawr $5.2M, $70K (1344)
Mount Holyoke $13.8M, $52K (2183)
Scripps $761K, $54K (1075)
Agnes Scott $665K, $35K (896)
OK, so unfortunately, Scripps and Agnes Scott do not seem promising. This is illustrative of how quickly you can run into colleges that do not have much aid for Internationals.
Barnard also stands out as not very promising. Just not a lot of money for a school that size and not a very promising average award.
On the positive side, Bryn Mawr seems worth checking out. It appears to me that in addition to need grants being available for International students, they also have a specific loan program run by the college for Internationals:
This may not be as good as a complete grant offer, but I would think it is worth checking out as an alternative.
Mount Holyoke is then also an interesting case. That is a large budget for International aid as these things go, but they apparently spread it out a lot. Still, might be worth checking out (I could not learn more in a quick look at their website, other than that they also say International aid packages typically include loans).
Thank you so much! i will only send my essay after PMing and agreeing
Thank you so much sir, I will be checking out Mount Hoyolke and Bryn Mawr (thankfully Hoyolke deadline is Nov 15 so extra time and Bryn Mawr doesn’t have EA, not sure whether to thank God or cry at that). Thank you!
Hi everyone (by everyone I mean whoever will still be bothered with this thread, thank you). ED deadline had passed and I have EDd to Wellesley. I’ll be ED2ing to Washington and Lee Nov 15 and a very nice woman has managed to give me a lot of tips and whatnot, but if anyone has anything general or specific that they wouldn’t mind sharing about the school or about how i should approach any part of the application (say supplementals for example; the Why Us essay and the other short supplemetals; i’m not going to put their prompts here becuase I’m not quite sure which one I’m going to go for, but if anyone is interested intrying to help me, I’ll happily copy and paste the prompts here)
Also, I am applying to Grinnell (, i know) so if anyone has anything, i mean anything, general, ultra specific about the school or the way they are handling their applications, it would mean a lot if you could give me that information, thank you!
I wanty to apply to UMiami even tho I’ll most likely not get in, so it would be appreciated if anyone could also give tips on…anything really, I’m open to almost anything becuase I want to hopefully submit all my apps before dec 1 and am planning to submit W&L’s next week or so.
Thank you again in advance, everyone who has contributed to this thread has helped me in ways my words of gratitude can’t express. Your help is really appreeciated!
