Yes, im pretty sure in texas if you’re top 10% you get admitted to any College in Texas except UT Austin and if you’re top 5%, you’re admitted to UT Austin As well
UT but not necessarily the b school.
The University has determined that it will automatically admit all eligible summer/fall 2023 and spring 2024 freshman applicants who rank within the top 6% of their high school graduating classes, with remaining spaces to be filled through holistic review.
This is NOW. It could easily change before you are a college freshman.
Here is the McCombs info.
Do you expect to be an international applicant two years from now, or is it possible you may have residency by then?
I believe that you’ll still be considered in-state for tuition purposes at UT, if you remain in TX and graduate from HS there - is that correct? Yet, you don’t have UT-McCombs on your list - why?
Given the range of projected costs at schools on your list, it appears that either 1) you’re a full-pay applicant whose family can afford even 90K/year schools without hardship or 2) you haven’t thought through the cost issues. Which is it? For an international applicant, ability to pay makes a vast difference. As others have said, it’s too early to answer many aspects of the questions you’re asking; but it’s definitely not to early to figure out what your budget will look like and how that may impact which schools make sense to apply to.
I totally forgot about this student being an international applicant. That makes his college list even MORE top heavy. He needs to consider that acceptance rates for international students are roughly half of that for US citizens/permanent residents.
I believe he would be granted instate status and enrollment consideration at Texas colleges. But this needs to be checked. Perhaps @texaspg knows.
And agree…UT Austin absolutely should be on this kid’s list. I suggested that upstream as his sure thing IF he maintains top 6% (and that doesn’t change by the time he enrolls), and if this all applies to international students.
While McCombs is a great school, I’ve visited and am not really interested in the university for personal reasons. I will graduate from hs here and the chances of residency by then is extremely slim. Cost isn’t a primary concern for me, as the biggest thing is I get into the best college that suits me.
Again you are early.
It seems you are rank focus.
Have you been to two u mentioned ? Ohio State and UF. Like UT, they are large. But different.
Rep wise they are not UT. Not in business/finance. Of course UT and MCCombs ate two different admittances.
Anyway, table this. But if you’re in Tx…check Rice, trinity, UH, SMU, TCU depending on the direction you go.
Forget the names. Which campus types start to feel comfortable.
Your friends know names and stats. They don’t know where you’d feel right …
So many are already looking to transfer. In many cases, it’s just bad luck. I’m others, it’s they chose rank, not fit.
It’s early. Only 50% of your academics which will impact admissions are done and if you took yourself off the Calc path, you made a fatal….not small mistake
Talk to a counselor. And be your best you in the classroom.
See some area schools to get a sense of what schools of different sizes and environments are like.
I believe if someone is a dependent of a work visa holder in Texas they pay instate and their rank is still considered for admission.
What UT says. Of course, it’s not relevant if OT doesn’t consider the school. That said, 22 months or so, til application time, and a lot changes. Certainly, McCombs punches well above its weight - although it’s not a safety (just UT would be).
“When you apply for admission, the university uses information you provide on the admissions application to make an initial determination about residency. If the submitted information indicates you aren’t a U.S. citizen or permanent resident but that you may qualify for residency based on Texas high school graduation, you will be prompted by the application to download and submit the Residency Affidavit. It must be completed, signed, notarized and submitted to the university.”
