Chances for a desperate applicant?

Hi all. I’ve been watching this forum for a few weeks now, but only recently decided to post. I was wondering if any of you could look at my stats and see what you think is in store for me tomorrow or Tuesday (as I haven’t recieved my decision yet). I applied to Yale EA and was deferred, and finally rejected. I applied to 9 schools RD and have been rejected from all of them, except for NYU. I know I am not the typical applicant, but if anyone could look over my info and give thoughts, I’d be appreciative. I’m curious to see what ccer’s think of my chances. Thank you!

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I was told they were amazing. I used the common app and I wrote about meeting the co-anchor of Gay Usa News (produced by local Manhattan television), a veteran NYC gay rights activist for the supplement. For essay, I wrote about growing up gay in Southern Utah and overcoming the hardships I was presented with.
[] Teacher Recs: Amazing
[] Counselor Rec: Excellent.
[] Hook (if any): Participated in the Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) at Washington University in St. Louis 2005. Gay male from conservative Mormon Southern Utah who has overcome many obstacles. First generation college student.

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Utah
[] School Type: Public Charter school for the Performing Arts
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: My school is very new (opened in 1999) and test scores are very low. There is no test prep because the majority of graduates (90%) attend the local community college or no college at all. I took both the ACT and SAT II’s only once.
[] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): No invites/no anything.
[/ul]Other Factors: I’ve wanted NYU since 9th grade. In the Fall they sent me stuff literally every single day, but I did tried logging onto NYU Home before it became a fiasco and it said “only current students may login”. I hope that isn’t a bad sign. I should have waited like everyone else. I’m really scared. NYU is my last hope.

Thanks!

IM sorry but ur ACT and SAT scores are really really bad… but ur EC’s are excellent So u got into NYU?

No. I find out hopefully tomorrow.

Haha, I know my scores are awful. Way to be blunt. :-D

ahahah i know im a very straight forward type of person… im waiting on NYU as well tomorrow; apprently Stern is very late in our area : San JOse, CA

:( good luck kiddo! do you have any other safety school?

I hope that late decisions aren’t indications of bad things to come. I really want NYU. I hope they can overlook my test scores and see what type of person I am. (haha) It’s not looking too good, though.

Eh, the University of Utah. I don’t want to go there. If anything, I will probably take the fall off and do some type of internship in NYC and than start spring semester 2007 somewhere.

And retake those stupid tests, of course.

tehre is this website that predicts ur changes at school its quite usefull

https://www.collegedata.com/cs/promo/promo_calcodds_tmpl.jhtml

go take a look, u just enter in data and they will predict if you are beyond reach, good, or maybe its quite usefull i hope this helps

Thanks King.

What sucks is that I have a friend who’s friend (haha) in Long Island got in with a 3.1 GPA and she had an awful essay. But we shall see.

well privates unlike states schools look at EC more so i think everyone’s decision is all in luck but we shall see i hope i could see u at NYU, still waiting on mine !!

Does NYU count geographic diversity in their decision?

CollegeData shows a Maybe.

Your ACT score is… a little weak, but your EC’s are pretty strong. I hope you get in. That being said, could you afford NYU?

Affording NYU would be a struggle, but at this point I’d sign on in a heartbeat. It’s been my top choice for 4 years. I understand the financial burden. Even though I am not upper middle class, I am willing to take out loans and pay.

Hmmm, to be honest, with your test scores, it doesn’t look stellar. However, I get the feeling that NYU puts a lot more emphasis on cultural diversity, ECs and leadership than most other schools, so don’t give up hope. You certainly seem to have enough in that department. :)

It does depend on which school you applied to, though. I can’t see Stern just ignoring an ACT score under 30…

I’m still waiting on NYU here in TX, too. Good luck!

I hate to tell you but I got the same message as you did when I tried to log in to NYUHome and I was subsequently waitlisted.

ahaha when i logged on it on NYU HOME it says i need to be a member so am i waitlisted??

I applied to CAS.

I thought I read on the other threads that some people who recieved an invite to one of the days couldn’t login to the NYU Home?

Or maybe on Wednesday they didn’t put all of the information into the system.

(False hope)

Thanks everyone.

What’s the deal with NYUHome? Is it bad that you guys tried to login before you got in to NYU? I don’t understand. You were “subsequently waitlisted” because you logged into the NYUHome?

That’s really strange if it’s what you meant.

Nooo. Supposedly people who tried to log into NYUHome and weren’t successful were waitlisted when decisions came out. However, we are not totally sure of this.

And, of course, the only way to know if you have been accepted or denied is when you get the mail. At least, that is what the NYU counselor I spoke with on the telephone told me.

I was under the impression that NYUHome was only for students who’ve enrolled. o_o; That’s kinda weird - are they telling applicants to log in?
