Thank you! We did receive some early merit as well, but our appeal is tied together with need based awards, so currently waiting with fingers crossed.
Best of luck to you!! Hope it works out!
Thanks so much!
Hi again! Iâm pretty sure I replied to one of your older comments haha. But I wanted to let you know that for me, my final updated merit award came out today (I appealed it just last Wednesday so yours shouldnât take too long).
Thank you! Our merit appeal has been pending for weeks, which seems unusual. Maybe this will be the lucky week! Chapman did email us today to say need-based awards will not go out before the 26th, so itâs a nail-biter.
We are waiting as well. Sent in the merit appeal a few weeks ago, but Admissions told us to wait until financial aid packages were sent out and then circle back with them if we still want to make a request. Our FAFSA just got reprocessed on Monday, so hopefully it will be soon!
Good luck! Itâs hard to be patient this close to the deposit date but we are trying. Thank you for sharingâ itâs good to know it isnât just us.
Our aid package arrived late yesterday and they added the exact amount we requested in our merit appeal to the aid package as need-based grants!
Happy news! Congrats and thank you for the heads up!
Well, it looks like we are the odd ones out this year. A big thank you to everyone who has been so supportive on here. My daughter applied to Dodge, was accepted into her second choice and has been awaiting merit appeal/financial aidâ itâs been a roller coaster. In the end, it did not make sense financially. She will attend the honors college at a state university with a substantial scholarship at less than half the cost (no loans or work study required) and receive an extra semesterâs worth of IB credits. (Chapman does not award credit for SL). Maybe grad school or a year abroad are in the cards for her instead.
For those who see this in the future, or who may be wondering/waiting, I will share a few details since Chapman is known for âbig merit.â
The NPC was way off. The initial merit scholarship received was less than half than what the NPC calculated based on her grades and test scores. ($14k versus $30-40k). We appealed. We were told that because she is in Dodge, the scholarships are lower because it is competitive & they have a waitlist of kids willing to be full pay. Even with appeal, they would not nudge us high enough for a Dodge major. We did receive a Chapman grantâ but the NPC had predicted bothâ the final COA was not close enough to the NPC to justify the expense.
The sad part is that she might have applied for a non-Dodge major if this had been made public at any point and she likely wouldâve received full merit. IMHO, itâs odd to give competitive kids w/ lots of offers less money depending on major, but thatâs how it goes. In a different year, we might have had time to negotiate more, but weâre not too impressed with the process, so I guess it wasnât meant to be.
Happy congratulations to everyone who was able to make it work. We will be jealous of those master classes! Also, maybe this gives hope to those waitlisted⊠we were told thereâs a pile-up of people waiting on aid and merit appeals. Those cases can get an extension, but my guess is spots may free up soon if you have the budget to pay.
Iâm sorry that this didnât work out for your family - looks like it was a lessons learned process. My son received $160,000 in academic scholarships (Political Science). He ended up choosing to attend Davis so declined Chapman yesterday so Iâm hoping that the scholarship ends up in other students financial aid portion. Best of luck to your daughter - it always turns out for the best even though it doesnât feel that way right now.
Thank you. Yes, lessons learned for the next two. As hard as it was to let go of âthe dream,â we will have a lot more breathing room now and I am sure my kid will find a way to thrive. I honestly feel like it was Chapman that missed out on a great student who would have been a life long ambassador. Davis looks fabulous. Best of luck to you!
This is my second round and it was much more unpredictable than with my daughter who got into all of the top UCs. Thought it was going to be similar if not better for my son but was shocked by the wait-list and denials he received. He was depressed for a couple of weeks but is now excited about Davis. I hope your daughter comes to the same feeling soon. Itâs just disappointing that she got into her dream school and the finances didnât come. Donât agree with their limiting financial assistance to the business program because itâs sought after and people are willing to pay full price explanation.
Yep. That explanation about full pay was the last straw. On the flipside, it helped my kiddo start to move on.
