Chelsea Clinton's Wedding

BBdad, Another question: Bethany Frankel (Real Housewives-NYC) is Jewish (not sure if R or C, probably not O) married someone non-Jewish …… her children will all be Jewish – correct??

yes, according to jewish law, if the situation is as you have stated it

i dont watch real housewives, i dont know the person you mention

I think Hilary wanted to go different from her usual very classic lines of clothing. The night before the wedding, photos show her in a caftan type dress. Very unlike her. Maybe a new era of clothing type for her. I thought she wore the pantsuit a bit too much, almost like a uniform.

As a former MOTB, may I suggest that Chelsea’s taste may have played a part in her mother’s choice? Since I’m basically a frumpy dresser and my D is a bit of a fashionista, my sole object in choosing the dress was to make her happy.

And when I chose a silk suit, I got told "Grandmas wear suits to weddings. The mother of the bride does NOT. " (I don’t mean to insult anyone who did wear a silk suit to her D’s wedding; I would have. I was not "allowed’ to do so. )

I look at photos and think that the dress is too “edgy” and will look dated in photos. But my D was quite pleased. That’s what mattered.

So, maybe Chelsea picked the dress. Remember too that reports say the bridesmaids wore lavendar dresses with plum sashes. I suspect Hilary’s choice also had something to do with that.

First, happy anniversary to missy!

Second, love this photo. Everything about it. Chelsea’s dress is even more beautiful here, and grandma looks fantastic. Yes, the dress/sleeves seem a bit youthful for Hillary, but the color is great and I say she’s the MOB, dammit, and she can wear whatever she wants!

Perhaps I should be embarrassed to admit that I know this, but only Bethenny Frankel’s father was Jewish; her mother was not. And I don’t think she was raised as a Jew. More importantly, I believe she has been quoted as saying that she doesn’t even particularly identify as being Jewish. So her daughter would not automatically be considered Jewish even by a Reform congregation.

jonri - I went a wedding recently and the MOB wore a fabulous raw silk chartreuse suit. Her coloring was PERFECT for it! But I have to say it was one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been to - so very far from over the top, just exquisitely executed.

Donna, you know Bethenny Frankel personally? You DON’T watch Real Housewives, do you?

Donna thanks for correcting my misunderstanding. In one of the segments of RH –NYC, I thought Jill referred to Bethany has her “little Jewish sister” or “little Jewish friend.”

Tricia Nixon’s son is running for congress. This ciip about it includes some footage of her wedding:

[msnbc.com Video Player](http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/38590311#38590311)

I remember her dress from that time. I loved it then, and still love it now.

Her son appears to be a likeable candidate; I know nothing about his policies or accomplishments. Somehow I doubt that she is happy about his going into politics!

But Julie’s dress has not withstood the test of time.

My mother was just saying she thought Tricia was the most beautiful of the White House brides.

What did Julie’s dress look like?

I don’t remember it that well, but at the time I thought it was dowdy. Tricia’s was elegant. I agree that she was the most beautiful White House bride.

Julie Eisenhower’s dress: [HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JULIE NIXON EISENHOWER](http://bridechic.onsugar.com/HAPPY-ANNIVERSARY-JULIE-NIXON-EISENHOWER-2632163) Not her fault - it just kind of epitomizes the style of the time, which hasn’t aged well. It makes me think of a homemade dress, though I’m sure it wasn’t.

Oh I think they were/are all so very pretty. Tricia just happened to have the Grace Kelly look as well…

Why does a wedding dress or a MOTB dress need to stand the test of time or age well?

The bride and bridal parties at many of the late 70’s and early 80’s weddings I went to had Gunne Sax or Laura Ashley dresses. I thought they were very nice then. They look a little dated now…but they were more than appropriate and lovely in their time…

They don’t need to - it was just a comment. Tricia’s dress could be worn today and Julie’s couldn’t.

Didn’t everyone who was married in 1981 have a Gunne Sax inspired dress? So unfortunate.

I liked both the Nixon daughter’s dresses. But then I’ve never been a fan of strapless dresses. Have never seen one that looks particularly good on the bride and they all spend their time adjusting themselves. On the smaller girls it looks like they are trying to look bigger and on the bigger girls it looks like they are spilling out.

Brides seem to now have the compulsion to “show off their curves”. I don’t get it, necessarily, but no, Julie’s dress doesn’t look especially flattering.

What I remember about Tricia’s wedding is that Tricky Dick, when learning that she was going to reside in NYC, asked, "Why would you want to live in hymie-town?

I think this lovely comment came to us virtue of the Watergate tapes, but I’m not sure.

Perhaps more of the same were on the missing 7 minutes.

i agree that few people look right in strapless gowns (Chelsea is one of them). I’ve wondered about this dress that Michelle Obama, who has the body for strapless dresses, wore:

I don’t like the way she spills over the bodice on one side.
