<p>transfers have a lesser chance not because they are competing with freshmen but with other transfer applicants who are all vying for the very limited number of spots. freshmen have a whole empty class to fill, whereas transfers fill a few empty spots that sophomores or juniors might have left.</p>

Amherst however states that freshmen and transfers are given equal consideration…on the contrary a school like middlebury gives second priority to transfers and hence accepts a very few (around 5 last year)</p>
