It’s called La Nicoise, in the old town area. We’d been visiting SU and got there pretty late on a weeknight-- they welcomed us and were just so lovely during the dinner. They’re from Nice (surprise!)-- food great, wine great…the place seemed to be a labor of love for them.

We should keep a restaurant list! Great idea!

Don’t forget, College Confidential has a whole section for reporting on college visits, and food and lodging suggestions are part of that. We auditioned-BFA students and parents tend to read only the acting and MT boards here for obvious reasons…

Yes, there are lots of threads along the lines of “Chance me for such-and-such school,” my GPA is this, my SATs are this, etc. So different here! That high stakes audition is just about everything. It’s hard even to discuss college applications with non-theatre people, which is why I’m grateful to have this place to vent and whine and learn and …wait.

We had the same experience at Unified for the Ithaca audition as you did ActingDad. I think my D put Ithaca as third or fourth choice. But there was only 8 kids for acting at my D’s session also so I’m hopeful! We only have 4 open options left so I’m really getting nervous for her Rutgers are supposed to send out callbacks this week, well that’s the rumor :)

We just got back yesterday from the University of Illinois. I know that’s not on a lot of people’s lists but I’m really glad she applied there. There were 8 kids there on Saturday and only 3 of those were for an acting audition! The facilities are really nice, the Krannert center is top notch and everyone was really nice. They had an interview with the head of the department after the tour and the audition and seemed to put a lot of time and effort into getting to know the kids. I think it would be a great option for my daughter even if it is so far away. But I love the feel of Urbana/Champaign and it would be a good fit for her

There are many U of I grads active in Chicago theatre (and elsewhere). It seems like a great program. I hope it works out for your D (as well as all of the others)!

We are heading out on the final leg of the College Audition (Review) Road Trip tomorrow. I can’t believe that by Sunday this all be over except for the waiting. I’ll post updates as we go.

I hear you, ugadog99. Glad the auditions are over. Actually ended up having to cancel 2 (CMU and DePaul) out of 15 auditioned schools due to conflicts . Overall thoughts were that BU and Ithaca didn’t go as well as expected, but others felt good. I’m hoping we will know by April 1, but there were so many stories at auditions of students who didn’t find out about acceptances from deferrals or wait-lists much later – like June and July! Yikes.

Best to you and D, ugadog. We all love hearing your tales from the trail. On Sunday, you can put your feet up and relax.

And congrats to you acting17. Must feel good to have all your auditions completed. I hope the wait isn’t too awful. Don’t start second-guessing how you did!

Ugadog…hope this weekend goes well and I hope you enjoy NEXT weekend…at home with no auditions!

Congrats to all of us who are done and are in the waiting waiting waiting process!!! Thankfully, my son is involved in shows so he has no time to worry about waiting…

ActingDad- My S and I, too, were surprised by Ithaca’s request that students rank their choices (incl Ithaca). We, too, put Ithaca 3rd. My S really likes the program, but he has two “lottery schools” ahead – I think that’s just being honest and hope that kids aren’t penalized for that. Frankly, you have to question those kids who listed Ithaca as their first choice – if so, why didn’t they go ED?

Thank God I’m done with auditions! Today I was walking and got hit by a car and broke my coccyx in half. I can barely walk or sit. Hopefully I’ll be on my feet again soon.

OMG Milky…I hope you are taking care of yourself and are able to rest. Also hope you are back on your feet quickly…but not too quickly!

On a whole other note, tonight was my son’s last dress rehearsal for his high school production of Little Shop…which means it was also HIS last dress rehearsal for his high school shows…and yes, I cried each time he sang which made it very hard to take pictures (I am the show photographer so I really had to buck up!).

Thanks guys! It’s a nasty bone to break and the pain is terrible, but I’m taking pain medication. Unfortunatelly I can’t do exercise for at least 6 weeks. But no exercise means no trapeze and movement classes
Today I watched playwriting class standing up. Maybe next class I’ll bring a yoga mat to lie down.
