Maryville College - $11,500 merit per annum
College of Wooster - $14,000 merit per annum

Rejected:

Hendrix College

Waiting on:
Earlham College
Kalamazoo College
Lawrence University
Guilford College
Grinnell College

Withdrawn Applications (long story):
Clark University
Smith College

3.3 GPA, no APs. 29 ACT. Special needs student with reduced courseload. Decent, unusual ECs. Excellent, heartfelt, risky essay. Showed lots of interest in the schools I was accepted to and not as much in those I was rejected from.

I am proof that if B+ students aim at the right bracket of schools, they CAN get into their top choices. Go B+ students!

Did University of Pacific release their accepts/rejects? I keep hearing on various forums that people got their acceptance letters and I’m getting anxious. ><;; I applied for Pre-Dental.

Congratulations MissP! That’s a good-looking bunch of schools, both the ones you’re already in at, and the ones you’re waiting on.

Our son finally heard something today–he’s in at UMass Amherst. Not high on his list, but it’s our financial safety, so it’s good to have it in the “yes” column. And it’s very good to have that first envelope be a fat one, whether it’s high on his list or not.

D got into UNC-CH early action–OOS.

Waiting on a bunch more, but D would be a very happy Tarheel!

My d happily has been offered great merit scholarship aid to Tulane and merit aid to Emory. She just found out she is into WashU but no scholarship…she happens to be the most excited about WashU but we are concerned about our ability to pay. Does anyone know if there is an appeal process or outside scholarships that could help cover tuition. We fall in between fin aid and ability to cover the $50K/yr. Still waiting on state admissions and a couple of other schools that don’t give merit aid…Northwestern and Harvard.
Any suggestions for WashU?
Any opinions or experience with Tulane or Emory?
Thanks!

This is reply to the mom who was excited about her average student being admitted to Arizona-Flagstaff. THere are plenty of zillionaires who were “average” students I know at least one billionaire who had adhd and did not even finish college. congrats to you and your child.

OMG, UCLA results (at least some) are out early, and D got into biochem! This is her second acceptance after UCB Regents.

What does it mean when my child is invited (via email) to a reception for Freshmen class of 2014, but has no official acceptance or rejection or waitlist letter from the office of admission? Any one else in the same boat??

Read the Likely Letter thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/868297-likely-letters.html</a>), especially posts #16-18. and you’ll see that this sort of stuff happens all the time.

Many applicants who will eventually receive official acceptances are first befuddled by these sorts of cryptic invitations.

Daughter has applied to 5 university’s for Performing Arts Theater Major…GPA 4.6 weighted. …Rank 35 of 826 in her class, ACT score 34…Applied to Indiana University, Univ of Evansville, Ball State, New York University and Northwestern.
Auditioned for New York University, Univ of Evansville and Ball State…Got accepted into ALL theater programs…( IU does not require auditions) Very selective and most Pick 6 females from 600 applicants, so we hear…We think this is good and a positive sign of her talents…Any thoughts from those of you with Theater backgrounds?

My S received a postcard inviting him to a reception in our city for admitted students, even though he had no official admission letter from that college. It turns out that the admission letters had been mailed out on a Wednesday and the postcards on a Saturday. Apparently the admission letter for S was lost in the mail, so the college mailed him another one. So this was not a likely letter situation, but just a snafu with the mail.

If I were you, I would contact the college and just ask them.

Hi- I’m new here.

This is the week.
My daughter was accepted to Newhouse Syracuse & Ithaca Park School/ Honors…(She is also a finalist for the Park Scholar (full ride).
Interesting thing is she got waitlisted at American University. I guess you never know. It really is a crap shoot.

Her stats- 4.0 UW ACT 29

She is waiting on BU, Northwestern, Conn College & Vassar.
We’ll see.

for an out-of-stater it is very difficult.

from New Jersey

He goes to school at Bergen County Academies (BCA): Schools not from the northeast don’t know about the status of BCA. They don’t weight GPA’s, they don’t rank. So it is not easy trying to get that point across.
Thank god for his musical talent!

moosedog: I wasn’t in the theater program at Northwestern, but as an alum also in the School of Speech (whatever they call it now), I get the magazine and read all about the accomplishments of the theater dept graduates. It’s literally who’s who on Broadway, on TV and in the movies.

I just want to share how excited I am that our search is OVER! Although my D’s GC did not seem to have a lot of confidence in her, D got accepted to 7 colleges and deferred at 1. She has not heard back from the last one (and might get rejected) but it is not near her top choice and she’s not going even if she gets in. All along she has said she has 3 top choices - no matter who asked her. She was accepted at 2 (one of which is way too expensive) and deferred at the other. So she will be going to one of her top choice colleges. She just got the acceptance (online) on Saturday and it has finally sunken in. She is so excited.

She does realize now that with better SAT/ACT scores she could have gotten merit scholarships, however, she is still going to her top choice college. I always encouraged her to work hard so she would have choices and it worked! Great for her self-esteem.

Congrats, LINYMOM!

njprouddad, my S goes to college with 2 girls who went to Bergen Academies. He says they are insane. They don’t know how to relax - they worked and studied SO hard during their 4 years in hs that they can’t turn it off. One came in with enough AP credits to be a sophomore. He said he’ll text them and they’ll be in the library, studying, on Saturday night - for a test that’s 2 weeks away. (Just to put this in perspective, this is a top 40 LAC and my S has a 3.8 GPA there - so he’s used to studying. But he says these girls are truely nuts.)

So I believe you about the difficulties/status of BCA, ha ha.

Hey njprouddad - I am from Passaic county and have been very envious of BCA and the fact that I couldn’t get my kids in - wrong county. Anyway, my D also was accepted to UNC in January and is planning on majoring in music also. What instrument does your son play? Mine D plays the flute.

So far my son is in BU Honors, Pitt Honors, and 3 other schools he’s not going to. Pitt and BU are tied as far as price goes.

He wants to major in something like econ or poli-sci while getting his pre-med requisites, with eye on med school.

Still waiting for Swarthmore and 2 Ivies next week. Really torn between these 2 definites though. THoughts anyone?

Congrats, NJ Mom of 2 and njprouddad! Being accepted at UNC - Chapel Hill OOS is a major accomplishment! My D had several very smart and gifted friends get waitlisted and they are in-state.

Have to give a shout out to my D for her third out of 4 acceptances - Smith College - still waiting on William & Mary - shouldn know by the end of the week!

lululu: It won’t hurt to wait until all possibilities are in. You then can sit down with your son and discuss options.

Finally done! =)

Accepted:
Art Institute of Boston
Goucher College
Hartwick College
Mount Holyoke College (for Jan 2011)
SUNY Purchase

Waitlisted:
Smith College (my #1)

Rejected:
Connecticut College
Wesleyan University

Right now, I’m leaning towards committing at MoHo, and crossing my fingers for Smith.
