UChicago is an incredible school. Congrats!

Ramen noodles are excellent either cooked or not. Scrunch the uncooked noodles in the wrapper and then sprinkle the spice packet on the uncooked noodles for a crunchy snack that is surprisingly similar to potato chips. It’s the 25-cent meal that keeps on giving.

giggle thanks so much mrs.college lol…of all the many ways I’ve eaten ramen noodles that is a new one! :)

Ramen is a staple at our house! :)

Delurking again. It is official, D is going to Williams College! I was sad yesterday but happy for her today. I didn’t realize it earlier, but I think I was sad for her rejection of an almost full ride at UNC Chapel Hill. But, as the following list will tell you, she always wanted a small LAC.

Accepted: UNC Chapel Hill (almost full ride), Smith (Zolman scholar plus stride), Wesleyen, Haverford, Swarthmore, Oberlin, Davidson, Williams.

Rejected: Morehead-Cain finalist and alternate but not the big prize.

Davidson and Williams offered by far the best financial aid making in less than the sticker price for in-state Chapel Hill. Plus her NMS will allow her to not work the first year and no loans (at least for the 1st year)!

hi GT: Isn’t a relief to have this decision BEHIND us? doing happy dance Congrats to your D @ Williams College! Golly I feel your pain today, I pret’ near had a heart attack today at the post office, in the line, when I mailed away DD’s full ride…I decided it would be better, like Lot’s Wife, to NOT look back lest I turn into a pillar of salt :)

Now we can concentrate on comforters, laundry soap, shampoo, shower stall caddies and other important stuff like that :)

D is going to Dartmouth College. She’s happy. We’re happy.

My son decided on Brown. It was a hard decision for him since he was accepted to all 10 schools he applied to. He truly loved every one of them. I told my father yesterday. He was so happy that to his embarrassment, he started to cry. It’s the first time I have ever seen him get that emotional.

Emory.
We had similar situation Business Fellows at Elon or William and Mary. We took a Friday saturday, visited both schools back to back and it became clear. Elon’s a nice place but Emory’s brand especially if it’s free, can’t be compared. Having said that… the heart rules and I could see how someone could fall in love with Elon.

My D sent in her deposit to Notre Dame. As a NMF she had many full ride of full tuition opportunities she didn’t take advantage of. From the moment she set foot on campus, she knew ND was her dream school. She did receive 2 scholarships to Notre Dame, but we will still have to make some serious financial sacrifices to afford this. She also got into Northwestern, Washington U St. Louis, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin Madison, Marquette, Illinois Wesleyan, University of Indiana, Miami of Ohio, and Dayton.

i’m going to Tufts.

Accepted: Tufts, Wellesley, Vassar, Wesleyan, Mount Holyoke

Rejected: Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia, MIT

i think ultimately my choice between the 5 was because of location, student body, and general focus of the school (yay diversity)

i definitely regret not even applying to dartmouth, cornell, upenn, carnegie mellon, uchicago, or northwestern. it’s very frustrating when i tell people which college i’m going to and they have obviously never heard of tufts, and i see their “surprised” face because they expected me to go somewhere more prestigious.

@Novanglia: very touching! how sweet. congrats.

Congrats to everyone else on their college acceptances. thrifymom, you are too funny. Our D also turned down a huge scholarship at Kenyon. Shudder.

Frankly, I find it disconcerting saying “no” to any acceptances when you think back on how much work our kids did to get it. Sigh.

@sneva831: Hindsight is 20/20. Don’t beat yourself up. Tufts is a great school. Our D is in the same situation with Swarthmore. People are clueless. You applied to ten schools. Our D applied to 13. She was accepted to seven (Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Vassar, UCLA, Berkeley, Haverford, and Kenyon) and waitlisted at Harvard, UPenn, Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, and Princeton. She also probably should’ve applied to Cornell and Dartmouth etc as well, but who knows how that wouldn’ve turned out. It’s all so random, and you can’t take it personally.

Congrats. Our D has a couple of brilliant friends at Tufts who love it.

Yes, ditto to congrats on everyone for making their decisions and for awesome acceptances! oh mrs. college I am now averting my gaze from your child’s K. news (I won’t even say the name. we must not think about it. FA LA LA)

changing subject :)

nk1811…two of my DD’s best friends will be at Notre Dame, too, they’ll be classmates! how about that! I know they all faced the same issues we did as far as scholarships & what not but it appears we have all decided to just walk off the gangplank together tee hee

sneva: I agree with mrscollege…Tufts is a WONDERFUL college and I have known many young people who have had nothing but fantastic experiences there. You should be really proud of your accomplishment and look forward to the fall and the great college career you will have at Tufts! What are your areas of academic interest?

Okie dokie off to think of a Nice Thing about my husband to write about in the Nice Spouse Thread, tho’ I am finding it difficult this a.m. as he was hovering over me last night while I was making dinner, pulling out spatulas, tongs, and re-spicing my flour breading…I hope this isn’t what retirement looks like!

I can not agree with my child’s decision to go to Dartmouth and rejecting UPenn. I feel absolutely devastated. I was supportive till the last two colleges we were down to and now I feel terrible.

Why do you feel that Dartmouth is wrong for your child, anotherconcerned?

she is from NYC, very active and outgoing. And I did not hear that somebody rejects the better school for another one. UPenn has all the advantages of a big univercity and much more prestigious.

After lurking for a long, long time. S picked St. Olaf over College of Wooster and Lawrence U. Lots of merit from all three places; nice FA from st. Olaf and Wooster, but less good from Lawrence. Pleased with his decision to become an Ole.

My son is going to Wheaton College (MA). We mailed the check today!

Also delurking once more to post “The University of What’s Happening Now” (joke from long ago post) now has a name and it’s Amherst.

QLM

Welcome delurkers and congrats on your kids’ accomplishments!

@anotherconcerned, UPenn can feel very overwhelming. Darmouth feels cozier and more geared to outdoors types. Is that why she likes it better?

Fwiw, as far as prestige goes, most folks think UPenn is a state school. I know it’s hard to let go. I don’t know what I wouldve done had my D chosen our state school over Swat.

Well, after much discussion, some college visits (and re-visits), a few mind changes, a prayer or two, several incantations, a couple of dad’s crazy spreadsheets, one Magic 8 Ball, a wish upon a star, a lot of tea leaves, a crystal ball, some tears, and some smiles, a decision has been reached and D is going to Princeton.
