That’s fantastic, parent56! Congratulations!

thanks 4, the hard part for him will be choosing which one. It will probably come down to which honors colleges he is accepted to. imo these are all excellent schools!! and he will be happy at any of them. I could have stopped the college app process right there, but he still wanted to try oos…grass is always greener mentality i guess.

S got accepted to University of Hartford with a 2.9 GPA – and $10,000 in merit money from the Barney School of Business!! Even though it’s not his first choice, he had the biggest smile on his face all night long knowing that he will be going somewhere next year.

Wow, that’s fantastic michone! Congrats to you and your son. I tried to get my son to look there but it’s too far away for him (we are in Southern Cal). So glad to hear of another success in the under 3.0 category.

OP, congrats, and does your son have any other acceptances? I’m guessing my S will be in a similar boat, and I am hoping that he will have more than 1 school to choose from :D

Congrats Michone! Good luck to your son.

Congrats. Thanks so much for posting. I hope to be in your shoes in the coming months. It’s hard enough for us parents to deal with the highs/lows here on CC, but for my son to go through this, knowing his older brother is at an Ivy League school, it’s so hard. We never talked about scores or anything like that, always focused on his gifts, and it did help he wanted a liberal arts school, so the college search list by definition was very different. Bravo…cannot wait to be there. I love all of the schools that my son is going to apply to, so any one of them would be great. The financial aid piece, well, that’s another story. I pray that does not preclude first choice options.
Enjoy the day!!

BfloGal - This is his first acceptance. He sent in the application a few weeks ago. I opened the letter - thinking it was just a confirmation of receipt of his application! This is giving me encouragement that he will be accepted at quite a few of his choice schools.

I thought 2.9 was his age lol.

Congrats! I remember that experience with my D, average student, both of us were jumping-up-and-down happy when she got accepted to the college she wanted.

Bilguun - I think you’re an idiot LOL!!!

Joy like this comes in 2 packages, one for the parents and one for the child.

My DD was stunned to get her acceptance letter . . in a good way . . from the only school she applied to . . WITH merit money . . . somehow she (like most kids) had a nagging suspicion that she really wasn’t good enough to go . . . and it was WONDERFUL to see the elation and relief play across her face . . . and to see that a school would offer thousands of dollars to snag her was priceless!!!

And the OP is right about CC: I love this site but it can create and perpetuate a LOT of anxiety about what a "right"school is and what an "average " student is . . . things are pretty skewed here, althought there a a number of people who keep and share good perspective.

Congrats, OP!!!

Kei

What wonderful news!!! :)

michone-- please keep us posted on his acceptances! I’m finding this very encouraging. My S (HS sophomore) has an auditory processing problem and possible ADHD/Inattentive, so he is not going to be a straight A student. If he ends up with a 3.0 overall in HS, I will be thrilled.

What a sweet thing is that first acceptance. Good luck to your son!

You made my day when I read about your son. There is hope for all of us. S is still completed applications so it will be awhile before we see an exceptance.

I am so happy for both you and your son! Wonderful news :-))))))

We need more threads like this-- how about a “Where did your 2.7-2.9 kid get accepted?” thread? I’m sure there are many of us out there, although maybe not so many on CC… ;)

Congratulations to you and your son! My son, also ADHD, will have the same challenges next year when he is a senior. I wonder in the back of my mind if he will be ready or if he should stay home and go to cc a year. I guess time will tell.

Congrats to elizabethh and michone!! My 2.6 (ADHD) daughter was accepted this week at Shawnee State University, here in Ohio.
