Class of 2014 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

Thanks elizabethh. Not sure my son wants a big school, but your list is a great start.

Anyone have a list of smaller schools (ie, ones that would consider a 2.9 kid)? Public/private doesn’t matter.

Thanks.

^^^ Your in-state college system might be a good place to start. Not necessarily the big flagship state U’s, but the smaller local college system.

Congrats to all of the parents with kids who’ve received their first (of many??!) acceptance letters. My D received her 1st, yesterday; Chicago’s Loyola! Yippee.

So far I’ve gotten into University of Iowa, along with a few local schools that I really have no desire of going to. I’m still waiting for UIUC (December 11th decision date), Minnesota, Purdue, Marquette, Northwestern, and Tulane. I got most of my apps in just in the last week or two.

I got accepted to 2 of my safeties today–big surprise that results came so quickly! A nice phone call and a boring letter haha. Quincy University with a big merit scholarship and potential for full ride, and letter of acceptance to University of Utah. :)

Just makes me smile that I’m going to -A- college, haha.

Congrats everyone! Way to get on this college business early!

My daughter and I were really getting apprehensive because she and her friend appied around the same time and her friend got her acceptance last week. I came on here looking for support/advice and maybe seeing if I could get some insight of her chances of getting in and seriously within minutes of creating an account on here my daughter forwarded me an acceptance e-mail from her first choice university and her and her bestie will be going to college together in the fall!! Yay!! Oh by the way, she had a 3.17, act score of 19, and top 50%.

Congrats to your D, ducker73! And welcome!

Check out Carroll College in Montana. They will tell you up front pretty much if he will get in AND if he will get scholarship. My S had a 3.0 but very high SATs and he got a decent scholarship from them. (they have a scholarship calculator on their website) Also look at College of Idaho.
These were 2 of my S’s match/safeties.
He cast a wide net with pure safeties (state schools), then more of matches that were a pretty safe bet, then his real matches (where he would prefer to go, if he did not get into his reaches) and then his reaches (applied to too many of those - but he wanted to, despite their tougher applications) He was accepted at several matches, all his safeties and no reaches.
Now some of you are not in favor of the wide net, but it gave us a better sense of confidence. Not to mention that there are several schools where he was offered excellent scholarships that have kept the offer open for one year should he decide he does not like the school he is attending this year (These were Carroll and C of I - both small schools)
He ended up going to Worcester Polytechnic Institute - bigger school, biggest tuition, smallest scholarship…sigh

loyola is one of my top choices and i think i will get in, so i was wondering when your d sent in her app, so basically how long did it tale to get a response?

My D’s school had a mandatory date of Nov 1 for all apps to be submitted. I think her apps
all were submitted by Oct 25-26th.

Good Luck~

ok thanks! i hope that means my apps will come this week or next.

My daughter has been accepted to Hardin Simmons and Baylor. She will be attending Baylor and may I say I am so relieved to have this process over.

Good luck to all waiting to hear.

My son’s first acceptance came today: Ole Miss! Woohoo!

Congrats, manitori and ds!

mantori, did he sing the “I’m going to College!” chorus?

That first acceptance is just such a relief.

congrats mantori! Isn’t it great to know he’s going to college?

He didn’t sing, but I did! He is excited about being the first on his floor (residential school) to hang an acceptance letter on his door. Thanks, y’all!

Congrats Mantori!

Great news, everyone. So nice to have acceptances before the holidays.

D accepted to University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, and has aps in to Florida State and UF. Really … wants to go to Indiana University, Bloomington or Miami University - Ohio. accepted to IU. Now we have to do the scholarship hunt to see if feasible to go out of state. USF has given her what amounts to a full ride and UCF just handed her the Pegasas scholarship 10K for 4 years. We will never be done with this process until May 1, I truly believe it will go down to the wire. The stress is already showing. I thought senior year was supposed to be enjoyable.
