Class of 2018 Decisions

It was a glitch. My screen went back to saying my application is “complete and awaiting review”

^ mine too :frowning: i’m so impatient

That is disappointing… Oh well. Guess we’ll have to wait a little longer.

Accepted with Presidential Scholarship/$30k per year merit, will be applying for both the full rides. I’d assume that the admissions office probably reads and tracks these threads, so I’d rather not post identifying stats. For those of you also applying to Ivies, how do you think a full ride at Tulane stacks up?

My EA application was marked complete Wednesday and I am still waiting to hear an admission decision. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me my chances of getting in.

GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.43 W
ACT: Composite 30, Science 33, Math 32, English 28, Reading 27 (I took it again but am waiting for results)
Course Load: Most rigorous, full IB candidate
Rank: 1/399
EC: 12 season athlete, leadership, class cabinet, 5 time Outdoor School student leader
Work: Lifeguard and swim instructor, camp counselor
Recommendations: IB History and IB Biology teacher

Thank you!

portland- your chances are very very good for admission and you will probably get some merit $$ as well (jmho). Assuming that you wrote the Why Tulane essay and showed some sort of interest, you are in great shape. Try to relax and keep checking Gibson. Good luck!

GeorgeGeorgeson - Congrats on the great offer from Tulane. Just to be clear (because I hate for anyone to be surprised by a misunderstanding) the DHS and PTA are full tuition, not full rides. Obviously still great, but there is a difference of about $15K or so. There is a full ride for the first time this year, the Stamps. I believe they will award 5 of those, and I think the application is the same as the DHS. If you find out differently, let us know.

I know that someone from admissions does read this from time to time, but as to actually trying to tie it back to an applicant and track it in some way, I rather doubt it. With somewhere between 35,000-40,000 applicants and all the other work they have, probably not a priority or useful exercise. But certainly do what you feel comfortable with.

My D applied (and got into) Ivies but took the DHS from Tulane. I think the answer as to how it “stacks up” depends on numerous factors. What are your personal financial circumstances? What are your plans post-undergraduate? What kind of overall experience are you looking for? There will be as many variations for answers to your question as there are people in that situation. My D would tell you that she has had a wonderful experience at Tulane, and is virtually certain to get accepted into a top grad school (Harvard, Standford, Johns Hopkins and Berkeley are her favorites, I think) to continue her focus on Asian Studies.

You are correct, the Stamps contenders are chosen from the DHS applicant pool:

“The Stamps-Tulane Scholarship seeks to recognize and reward exceptional students who exemplify leadership, perseverance, scholarship, service and innovation. It is our most prestigious merit award and covers the total cost of attendance in addition to an enrichment fund to support endeavors such as study abroad, undergraduate research, academic or co-curricular conferences, and unpaid internships. Through generous funding by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation and dollar-for-dollar matching by Tulane University, The Stamps Tulane Scholarship will be awarded to approximately 5 incoming freshmen each year. Interested applicants must apply for the Dean’s Honor Scholarship by December 15 and must also submit an Early Action or Single Choice Early Action application by November 15. Select finalists will be invited to interview for the award in early spring.”

hey y’all… first time to post! I did SCEA and my application was “Complete” in the eyes of gibson around october 16th… It’s been about two and a half weeks, so I’m expecting something any day/hour/minute now. Now I am just obsessively refreshing Gibson waiting for a decision, ANY decision…

steve just like you except i did EA. oct. 16th is when mine was marked complete too and i am impatiently waiting to hear anything back from them.

i was accepted to tulane honors program with $$!!! my stats are a 3.75 uw, 4.2 w gpa, 2130 sat, and great extracurriculars.

That’s great, gsl. Much congrats. Which scholarship offer did you receive?

I saw from your other post that you also are applying to Middlebury. Both my kids looked at it as well, what a beautiful place. And some of the best college food I found in my travels with both of them. As far as I know, they don’t have merit money, do they?

Just saw the Congratulations message on Gibson!! I checked this morning and there was no decision made, but coincidentally about an hour after my admissions rep responded to an email I sent a few days ago, I got in EA!! 1980 SAT, 29 ACT, 94.3 W GPA with great recs and pretty good essays, good ECs. Out of state too. SO excited!!

anyone in the westchester area with hannah udell hear anything?

finally got my official letter! accepted as a distinguished scholar with $25k/yr and an invitation to the honors program  14wilsc12 I can’t believe you still haven’t heard! I wouldn’t necessarily think it’s anything bad, but maybe you should call the admissions office. When was your application marked as complete on Gibson?

tulanehopeful - How great! What an excellent result. Congratulations.

has anyone not gotten in? it seems like everyone from my school and here has gotten in. what happened to being selective?

It always seems that way now, because you have the best students applying EA usually. At the end of the process, Tulane’s admission rate will be very close to past levels, I am sure. Also, Tulane usually doesn’t tell people “no” at this stage. For those that are less likely to be admitted, they wait until close to the Dec. 15 date and if they still decide they cannot admit them at this time, they defer them to RD. The vast majority of Tulane’s declination notices come during the RD round. Besides, those who haven’t gotten in are no doubt keeping quiet. That probably contributes to the perception you have.

well, nearly everyone on CC is one of those high-achieving types, so there’s that. maybe your friends are the same way? i hear the EA acceptance rate is way higher than the regular decision acceptance rate, so that also helps. it seems that usually people applying EA are strong applicants and/or super interested in the school.

^oh, yeah, what fallenchemist said

october 16th it will be 3 weeks exactly tomorrow the wait is killing me tulanehopeful
