i also dont know if i want to call because i sent her an email not long ago (maybe a week or so) so i dont know i don’t want to seem desperate lol

D has just finalized and submitted her application SCEA (3.8 GPA/2060 SAT/4 and 5’s on AP exams). She had taken the ACT at the end of October (although not required) and probably won’t know or be able to submit results for at least a few more weeks. Can anybody make an educated guess as to whether Tulane will likely hold off on a decision until ACT test results are received, since it may impact acceptance or (hopefully) merit award. Hypothetically, if her application is processed quickly and IF she were accepted however, lets assume without merit award, is there a process where she can appeal if her ACT’s would work strongly in her favor? I know a lot of “if’s.”

Ion,
I am also a senior who just took the ACT and had the same question. According to my college counselor, Tulane and most schools will reevaluate the amount of merit money given to accepted students if their standardized test scores improve.

Only two real if’s there, because I am betting she will get the acceptance. After all she applied SCEA and I would assume she completed the Why Tulane essay. 1) Since they have her SAT scores there is no real reason for them to wait. But not to worry, because 2) Yes, if her ACT score is substantially better than her SAT score equivalent, say she gets a 34, then you can send that to her admissions officer and ask if she might qualify for a higher merit award. However, I always recommend waiting for her first semester senior year grades to be finalized, assuming she thinks they will be as good or better than her average so far. Then you have two positive pieces of info to make your case with.

Thanks sound. I imagine the same may also apply then, with upward GPA trend and rigorous courses through at least first semester of senior year.

Thanks FC. As you can see I was posting when you replied and answered my next question.

I have Hannah Udell and haven’t heard anything. My application was marked complete on October 22, and I am losing my mind! One person from my school already heard (accepted), so I am getting worried. Has anyone from your school heard?

Anyone hear from Southern California with Jeff as the admissions person? We are very anxious as application has been complete since 10/22. D left a pretty time consuming commun service activity off her application because there were only 3 spots and is wondering whether she should email him regarding. It. Any thoughts?

i know its taking forever it seems this has been the slowest 3 weeks ever. And not that i know of nick there’s 8 applying but I only think two other kids and i had the priority application and i haven’t checked on them but I think I would have heard from them if they got in or not.

I live in Westchester too and my app was marked complete like the first week of october. I applied through the “special status” application as did a friend of mine. This friend has very high stats (ivy quality) and submitted his app in september, but neither of us have heard anything yet. Also out of the 6 kids who have applied from my school, none of us have heard anything. Is it abnormal for an app to marked as complete for this long? I have Hannah Udell and does anyone know how the Tulane admissions people sort applications? Do they view them according to the date they were submitted, bc if so I’m starting to wonder if i got deferred or possibly rejected considering the amount of acceptances posted on this thread.

What is a special status application?

I received a letter in august inviting me to apply though a “special application.” Idk how else to describe it

I am led to believe most people who have applied thus far haven’t received a decision. I only know of one person that isn’t on this thread who has been accepted.

typically do they accept ppl with very high stats first?

Ah, from what I’ve read they really don’t give you any kind of advantage. Was it the actual Tulane application with the “Why Tulane” question or something different?

Appletree, I don’t think so.
The one acceptance I know of has a disciplinary history and has bounced around schools for the past few years.

i guess it’s the Tulane app on their website.

ok cool. Thanks soundshaper

If I had a dollar for every time I logged on Gibson and saw “Your application is complete and is awaiting decision”, I’d easily be able to afford Tulane.

^That is how I was able to afford Tulane!
