I got the 25k scholarship + honors program! Stats are 3.7/4.36 gpa and 32 act. Applied EA. So stoked!

I applied SCEA about two weeks ago and still waiting to hear back. My GPA is pretty solid at a 3.7 out of 4.0. However, my SAT was pretty low (650 math, 570 Reading, 500 Writing). My ‘hook’ would be that I studied for a semester in China. Also, I have a lot of unique community service, such as, working with elephants in Thailand. Maybe more importantly, I have showed a lot of interest in the Tulane. Really hoping I get in.

I found out I got in earlier today; however, when I logged on to Gibson later the application status was blank and there was an error:

Error Report
Channel ID: ctf10
Message: encountered problem while trying to complete rendering
Error type: General error (code 0)
Problem type:
Error message: General channel rendering failure.

do any of you know if this means anything, or if my acceptance wasn’t legitimate

CT99341, The same thing happened to me. I got the congratulations message earlier today and now it is showing the Error Report on Gibson.

I don’t believe the error message means anything. Sometimes I go on Gibson and my congrats message is gone completely and there’s nothing there. I have heard from past years that they see an error message and then they get the congrats message. I’m sure its just the system, possibly because you were newly accepted.

For sure. If you saw an acceptance posted, 99% that you are definitely accepted. There have been schools that have accidentally posted false acceptances, but never Tulane as far as I know, and it is really really rare. So by all means assume you have been accepted. Besides, you will get your paper letter within a few days after that was posted, so you will know for sure anyway.

I really wish Tulane would fix the Gibson system so that, at the time they are updating or whatever is going on when it goes blank like this, it shows what is accurate up to that point. This is the second year they are driving people crazy with this (although it is also true you guys shouldn’t let yourself be driven crazy by this. I know there is a ton of anxiety, but just try to take a breath) and it would just help everyone if it stopped, and better yet if they could post regular update times. I am not an IT guy, so maybe what I am suggesting makes no sense, but surely there is something better.

Still, bottom line guys, it really doesn’t make that much difference if you find out Nov. 1 or Dec. 15. Come May 1 when you have to have made a final decision on where you are going to college, it will have been the same.

My daughter got it. Found out last week.

D just got accepted SCEA! Her application wasn’t posted as complete until 9:00 this morning. By 1:00 pm she got the Congratulations! message. That seems to be about as quick a decision as I’ve heard, based on posts here.

Just want to qualify this by saying, she did happen to at least get part 1 of the app with basic information in in early October, shortly after our visit late Sept. Took a little while to get everything else in order, since part of it was she was taking her second round of SAT’s last month (which cost 30 bucks to express send scores; what a racket considering this IS the digital age). Showed a lot of interest and continuing correspondence in the mean time. I have to believe level of interest and SCEA kept her on the radar and was a huge factor in prompting fast response/decision.

I have to agree. Sounds like the decision was already made unless the last of the materials threw up a flag, which obviously didn’t happen. Congrats to her!! And you too, of course.

Thanks FC, and another thanks for all your insightful information on here, which really helps everyone a lot. We are really excited. I’m just glad it’s Friday since getting the good news is making it really hard to focus on work.

True dat! I remember well. Take her out for a special celebration dinner. Or maybe after she gets the letter in the mail. How did her ACT turn out, or her second round of SAT’s? Much change?

SAT’s went up 160 pts. overall from first time taken in January. What really helped a lot was huge improvement in Math going 610 to 710; and CR to 690. She worked hard and earned it. Gave her 1400/1800, on those two components. Actually went down on writing second time but I suspect she gained a lot of ground on her two essays. Still waiting on ACT’s and hopefully can heed your advice to hold those cards and use it with full semester grades to get or up merit award.

Want to hold off for the official letter hoping it will incite a Mardi Gras-like celebration.

160 is a pretty big change! 1400 is outstanding. I am sure I am just being dense, but what is the 1800? Do you mean 1600? Just curious. But since Tulane superscores the SAT, her first writing score will be used. What was it, if you don’t mind sharing?

newjersey17 - Thanks for the PM and congrats to you as well. I can’t respond directly. Don’t have enough posts. Did your D apply EA or EASC?

Right, I meant 1600. Glad she was the one doing the math. 660 first time on the writing.

Is it me or have EA kids been being admitted in a timely manner, while SCEA folks (like myself) are kept waiting? It seems like most of the SCEA people haven’t heard back yet while almost all of the EA applicants that I’ve seen are getting a decision in 1-2 weeks…

I’m just frustrated bc I’m SCEA and I’m going on my 4th week of waiting for a decision. Accept me, deny me, defer me, whatever…just please tell me something soon!

My son applied SCEA, he showed a lot of interest and did keep in contact with his admissions rep.

@steveTX I don’t think it matters how you applied. I applied SCEA and got a decision very quickly. What me and my parents have hypothisized is it might depend on what time you send it in. For example, you might send it I’m when your counselor is already considering somebody else’s and that makes your decision take longer. Just a guess but it’s definitely not because you applied SCEA. If that did matter, you would be getting a decision sooner rather than later compared to EA students. I would not worry about it. There are HUGE ranges in the amount of time it takes and it does not necessarily imply something negative.

D just received her letter - Presidential Scholarship & honors program invite. So exciting!
D’s stats are 3.8/4.2, 2260, applying as a vocal performance major (submitted DVD supplement). So nice to have such a wonderful offer so early in the year.
