Class of 2018 Decisions

Wow Gertrude, that is superb. Just to repeat advice to others, have her take a shot at the DHS and/or Paul Tulane.

My son and I had met and talked the California admissions counselor, Kasey, at a college fair last spring. He emailed her recently (after missing the Tulane presentation at his HS, due to a conflict) and she’s now longer with the university. He then emailed his new counselor, Morgan, on Monday and has not received a response. Is this the typical level of responsiveness? Has anyone had any interactions with Morgan?

His app is complete, and he just wants to make sure that Tulane knows that his interest is genuine.

Well, of course every counselor is different, but usually they get back pretty fast. Perhaps it didn’t get to her for some reason, or she was out and unavailable. I would have him write a quick email again saying that he was just checking to see if she got the first one.

@AsleepAtTheWheel She’s my admissions counselor as well, and she can take a while to get back to you. I’ve emailed her a few times and the average response time is about a week or so. I’m guessing she’s just really busy always! She will get back to you though. I had the chance to meet her and she’s a real sweet genuine person, definitely someone who I’d want reading my college application. I wouldn’t worry at all. If you have a question you need answered ASAP then the interns they have working in the admissions office are SUPER helpful.

Is anyone elses Gibson blank today?

@soundshaper Nope, and I’ve been checking all day. Maybe it’s just another glitch?

Bromar,

Thanks. And just to be clear, I wasn’t being critical of her – was just trying to get a take on how long it may take to get a response. I’d also add that so far the Tulane admissions office has their act more together than any of the other schools to which my son has applied.

Is it possible to hear back on a weekend?

People have heard back all days of the week I believe

Accepted to Tulane University Class of 18!

Congrats RedSox! Are you from the Northeast?

Congrats, Redsox! And yes, my DS heard on a Saturday.

Congrats Sox! My D just heard on Friday. Are you from Mass? We are from CT.

I submitted Part 2 of my app on friday night and now everything should be in. But on Gibson, my application status is blank. When do you think I will hear back?

The variance among the amount of time it takes for people to hear back is pretty big. I personally have been waiting a while but then again I’m still waiting on my teachers to submit some rec letters so that might be why. Gibson has been blank for the past few hours for me but I think we all know by now that it’s just a glitch.

Congrats to everyone who’s been accepted!

I wonder if decisions will slow down a bit as the November 15th deadline approaches. If the volume of applications increases it might take a bit longer to go through them and be sure they are complete and then review them.

Certainly those that don’t get their complete applications in until now have a much greater chance of waiting until close to the deadline, I think it just depends on what parts of their apps were missing and how caught up their counselor happens to be. But I don’t think the actual number of decisions per day will slow down. Now that their traveling show is over, I would think they would be in a steady mode of finalizing decisions.

Fallenchemist, do you know if counselors typically read applications and give decisions in the order that they have been completed? Mine has been complete for almost 2 weeks which is normal but regardless I am beginning to worry obsessively that no news is bad news.

Frankly, I don’t know. It would be logical, but there are so many variables involved. 2 weeks at this time of year is not long, so that in and of itself should not worry you at all. I know from your other post that your GPA is a bit on the low side, but the rest of your resume looks solid. Hopefully your grades have trended upward, that would help some. But while I know it is difficult, try to just put it out of your mind as much as you can. There is nothing else you can do now, it is what it is. At most you have another 4 weeks to hear something. I know that sounds agonizing but try not to let it distract you from your current schoolwork. Keeping up your performance might be crucial.

Let’s say you get deferred to the RD pool. Then your first semester grades could be really critical to your chances. So put your focus where you can do yourself the most good and not where there is absolutely nothing you can do anyway.

I submitted Part 2 of my app on friday night so now everything is in. It still says Part 2 is missing on Gibson though. Even though it says that, could they be reviewing my app right now? Could it say part 2 is missing up until it says my decision notification?
