Class of 2018 Decisions

Appeals have been successful in the past, and 33 is absolutely a significant change. I would still advise waiting for full first semester grades though, especially if she maintains that 4.0 UW. The more ammunition the better. I haven’t really noticed that being early or later is a key factor in and of itself. Tulane has always seemed pretty consistent in how they award merit, and has taken significant improvements into account in the past.

If we received National Merit Semi-Finalist AFTER submitting our application to whom in admissions/how would we make this know? Just email admissions?

HSG

Yes, email your specific admissions officer.

Thanks FC, probably sound advice. I imagine they are inundated with apps right now anyway. The only reservations I have about appealing later rather than sooner is that in January and February they may not have a lot of commitments yet, with a lot if $ hanging in the balance and hesitant to grant more, to someone who is not necessarily a “slam dunk” although probably a good fit for Tulane. I could be completely off base, but just a concern.

DD found out this morning she was accepted! Safety choice for her, RD.
Stats - 2150 SAT, 31 ACT, 4.2 gpa, numerous AP classes, leadership positions, sports and extra-curriculars.
She’s taking other safeties off her list as she would happily attend Tulane!

congrats may i ask when her application was submitted and complete

Daughter accepted Tuesday (11/12) . She received the Distinguished Scholars ($25K) and an invitation to the Honors program.

Stats:
SAT - 2170
GPA - 94
AP - 3 taken (4s, and a 5 )taking 4 this year
Very strong EC’s
Applied early Oct. She applied EA but was initially categorized as RD on Gibson. One quick phone call corrected the problem. Was interesting to see in previous posts that others had the same issue.

Where on Gibson does it note whether the application is EA or RD? When my son logs on all he sees is a message that his app is complete and that it will be reviewed soon.

Thanks.

Gibson didn’t say EA or ED. It said her app was complete, under reviw and “the lastest she would hear back from the committee would be APRIL 1”, the RD decision date. After calling the admissions office Gibson was changed to read “The Admission Committee is working to render your decision AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.”

i submitted my app like the first week of october and i got my acceptance today on gibson. best advice is to be patient

Hopeful,

Got it. Very helpful. Thanks!

Congrats appletree!

Good News for some of the students who are concerned with lower test scores. My son was accepted today. I have posted his stats on here…but will repost if anyone is interested!

Congrats everyone! So of everyone who has been accepted- how many are actually going to go? My son was ready to plunk down that deposit last night when he got access to the Accepted Students portal. Until I told him that the $500 deposit would be his Christmas gift!

Well Terri, I still don’t think your son’s stats were on the lower side, but rather close to the middle. In any case, super congrats!

has anyone with the admissions rep Paul Burgess been accepted yet? if so, what are your stats? I have been checking every day and so anxious to hear! :/

My daughter was accepted and received the DSA. I’d say Tulane is her #1 right now, but waiting to hear from a few others.

Kenny88 she applied Sept. 19. She originally applied EA, but called to switch to RD when she decided to apply to Yale SCEA.

what are thoughts on the weight of the essay in gaining admission? important component or not as important as test scores and grades?

There are two levels to the answer. First, and this is for sure, if you don’t do the “Why Tulane” essay at all, it hurts you. Often a lot. But I assume you mean that you did both.

So at that level, and this is just my opinion, they are important but not as important as grades and test scores. That assumes they are reasonably well done and not full of spelling and grammatical errors. But as long as that is true, I think the EC’s, grades and test scores are going to have more weight. The essays probably rule more people out, like if they do have a lot of errors, are wildly inappropriate, anything like that.

I think the admissions people in most schools, and almost certainly at Tulane, are just looking for honest stories that show you gave it some thought, not evidence that you will someday win a national book award. Along with the general competence I mention.
