My D informally asked her admissions counselor if her ACT score of 33, could be considered for possible merit $, since the scores arrived AFTER she was accepted, and as it is an improvement over SAT’s. No dice. She was told formal appeal letter needs to be written stating case for consideration sometime in March or April. I wonder if this is a negative or positive. This may sound crazy but I inquired to admissions of possibly withdrawing her application/acceptance and immediately resubmitting, with the newly improved scores. They put me on hold for 20 minutes and then said this was against protocol. I don’t believe I would have taken that chance but I think the question threw them for a loop.

That is definitely different than in the past (not the withdrawing and resubmitting, I can see why that threw them for a loop! LOL), before people could appeal earlier and were often given bumps in the amount very quickly after asking. Sounds like they want to wait and see how the new class is shaping up and take all the information into consideration at once. I am not sure if it is a negative or a positive either, I guess that will depend on how things look come April 1 or so. But this is a change, at least in formality. Certainly the positive is that they are not saying no. There are definitely schools out there that never reconsider after making the first decision. CC has plenty of stories about that.

Just found out I was selected as a Founders Scholar, so excited! If I am not admitted to Northwestern (where I applied ED) I will likely be prioritizing Tulane over most of my other top choices
#rollwave

has anyone been admitted today?

FC- bottom line is ACT scores are in and should at least be considered. Apparently a casualty of being almost too efficient for whatever reason. Admission counselor knew the scores were coming, since early October test date was stated on the app, and instead decided to admit her three hours after application was marked “complete”; although admittedly we were all very excited at the time. I don’t know maybe it had something to do with AC traveling this week, and knowing to clear the decks, since she has a ****t-storm of apps awaiting when she returns. I would prefer the scores be considered now, and get an outright no and move on. Tulane has over-enrolled over the past four years and the reality is, if this trend continues this year, they would actually prefer she doesn’t enroll at that time, let alone grant $. Thus, the housing crunch continues…

Well deadline is now done for all of us EA’s and SCEA’s, now the waiting game will really kick in… Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back! Remember they technically don’t have to let us know before Dec 15th since they’re not a rolling admission school. Just gotta be patient on it!

IonNola, I feel for you. It’s so unfair! I can’t offer you any advice, but I understand your frustration. It would color my feelings about Tulane if it happened to me. My S is going to Tulane next year. It’s his first choice and he’s happy to not be doing any more applications, especially with the Common App fiasco this year. I didn’t think that my son had any chance for a merit scholarship until I started following the Tulane thread on CC. Then I started to expect it and if he didn’t get any money, I would have been pretty upset. The information on this forum is wonderful, but sometimes ignorance would be bliss! You should take a look at the “test score help” thread from 9/10/13. Different outcomes for 2 people who appealed. Good luck. If Tulane is your D’s first choice, I hope you can separate this negative experience from the excitement of being accepted.

Thanks MJMAMA, I’ve read the post and we seem to be in the same boat as the second person. My D’s feelings about Tulane haven’t changed, it’s still her first choice but now the app/college search process isn’t over. By no means did I expect or think my D is entitled to a merit award, based on what anybody has said anywhere, in any post on CC. Just CC makes you realize it is possible, and then became more possible with improved credentials. Tulane seems to be generous and of course it’s their discretion on a case by case basis. I realize it’s probably not all stat based as well. Thankfully, my daughter doesn’t read this. My frustration comes from having to wait until April, when according to my perception (maybe true or maybe not), when the outcome is less likely to be favorable. But I suppose it may also be quite possible and as simple as Tulane not wanting or necessarily needing to deal with D’s individual case right now as they are inundated with new apps. I guess the best advice I can give to her is to keep plugging away, and maybe try an informal inquiry again once the dust settles.

I would be happy just to receive an acceptance.

Tulane isn’t only my first choice it is my only choice, as I fell in love with the school and can’t see myself anywhere else.

I worked my tail off all of high school to earn a 4.05 unweighted GPA. All A’s in my core classes.
I scored 4’s on AP US and GOV which shows my college readiness. In addition, I volunteered every saturday morning for 3 years working with handicapped children and received an award for my work. I belong to the Social Studies, Foreign Language, Math, Science and National Honor Societies. I have held several leadership positions at school including Guidance Peer Leadership and I work 15 hours a week. After my visit, I wrote a fantastic Why Tulane essay…

My application was submitted on September 21st and I wait…
Probably because my SAT is 1850.
I am hoping that I am judged based on what I HAVE achieved not based on what my SAT score indicates what I might achieve.

IonNola, “expect” wasn’t the right word. I think that I became hopeful based on what I was reading and would have been very disappointed, whereas if I hadn’t been on CC, I would have just been excited about the acceptance. I think it’s just so frustrating for you because that great ACT score became available just one day later and they won’t review it right away. I think you’re right that it’s just a matter of them being inundated with applications, but that doesn’t make it feel any better. I didn’t sense any “entitlement” in your posts, but I would have been just as upset given the circumstances. I’m glad your daughter doesn’t spend time reading all of this!

Me too about my D! Like you have said though, at least from my standpoint CC has been a great source of information. But yeah, I think it’s natural for expectations to go up when others are excited, first of all about acceptance and secondly a merit award for all S’s or D’s hard work.

Hang in there, Kenny. Tulane looks at more than just test scores and I think that you have a lot going for you. I know people who have been accepted with less than 1850 and others who have been denied with stellar scores, so you just never know. The waiting is very tough. Make sure that you admissions counselor knows your level of interest. Good luck!

When does Tulane send an email saying they’ve received your app?

They don’t. You have to check Gibson.

Still waiting even though I submitted before some other people who’ve got acceptances :(

Finally got my official letter in the mail today. Honors program and named a Distinguished Scholar!
Unfortunately, I still won’t be able to go unless I get one of the full tuition scholarships, the Community service scholarship, or a minimum of $10,000 in financial aid.

How do I set up Gibson?

When I check my application status, sometimes it’s there and sometimes it isn’t. The box for application status is there, but it’s blank. I submitted on Nov 12th.

^me too, it’s been like that since yesterday

Mine has also been blank. Anyone else on this thread, any knowledge on this? Or is it just a glitch in the Gibson system
