Often earlier. Tulane still does a “semi-rolling” notification so he could hear any time. But maybe it won’t matter so much about Tulane if he gets his SCEA school. I wonder how many schools are doing SCEA?

My son found out last night via Gibson that he is in. He is over the moon. Now we just have to figure out the financial piece. BTW… he applied 11/12.

FC—I think only six or eight schools offer SCEA or REA: HYP, BC, Georgetown and I think Stanford. (My son did not apply SCEA anywhere but I know the first five listed are Single or Restricted EA.)

MIT and Chicago are not restricted, but are EA.

Congrats cbrand and son! It’s so exciting. We were at sons NHS ceremony today and all the kids and parents were so excited that our son got into Tulane. Everyone knows how much he wanted it. Now, as you, we are trying to figure out the finances.

I was pretty sure it was a very limited list, CT1417. Of course a ton of schools have either EA or rolling admissions, with the latter being pretty similar to EA for those that apply in the early stages. But I guess SCEA has not caught on with many schools that continue to stick with ED, despite its inherently prejudicial issues. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying ED is evil or anything; I understand why both schools and many students like it. But there is also no question that it favors the upper-middle and upper-class families, especially the latter.

FC, I noticed there are several brand new Tulane counselors. How do they do the “semi rolling” admissions without any previous experiences? Is this the reason we see no admissions from some states so far, while much faster in other states?

Well, suvjessica, I cannot say with certainty since I don’t work with them. Also, I don’t know that there haven’t been admissions from all states, we only see the ones on CC (and I imagine there are others on Facebook that I cannot see). But I think you are somewhat correct, that new people in admissions, as they learn the ropes, get advice from the more senior people and that would slow down some apps. My understanding is there are guidelines that would allow some candidates to be admitted (or deferred) without much doubt, while others require a review by either a more senior person or a review by several in conference. I know that is how some other schools do it. But it seems rather intuitive that very experienced people like Jeff or Antoinette can process their candidates faster than a newbie. It doesn’t change the process of being able to do semi-rolling admissions, it instead just changes the speed one line runs compared to another. At least that is always what I have thought to be the case.

Do they only post decisions during office hours or can I receive my decision anytime?

Haha I guess so! Thank you @fallenchemist! :)

Hard to say. People report them at all kinds of times, but who knows how often they are looking. I think it is safe to say that the closer it gets to the deadline, the later the hours they work, including some weekends. Just a guess, but seems logical.
