Class of 2018 Decisions

I think comparing the stats of 44skier and kkean1234 really shows that one “weaker” area doesn’t mean you can’t get into a great school. 44skier with a somewhat lower gpa than the average Tulane student, and kkeen1234 with an ACT score that is on the low side for Tulane (although I would point out that a 27 ACT is still 85th percentile) but a high GPA with a tough schedule. kkean1234 also has excellent EC’s and I see from other posts that 44skier does as well. I would also point out that 44skier is also apparently a talented animation artist. Don’t know if that factored in here but it certainly could have.

44skier - I wish you luck with your ED at Miami. Let us know how that turns out. Have you visited Tulane?

Alrighty y’all, let me try to give hope to those of you who are still waiting on a decision…

Just got my acceptance today after waiting since October 15… I was waiting so long that I begun to lose hope… So if you are still waiting for awhile, you still have a chance like me.

My stats:
GPA: 3.2 (Easily my weakest part of my app. B student but all AP courses)
SAT: 2070 (770 M, 610 R, 690 W)
No class rank
AP scores: 4 on US history, 4 on Calc AB

EC: - Founded my school’s DECA chapter (DECA is an international association of marking students)

 • Advanced to the International competition in DECA
 • Swim team captain
 • All-state swimmer (texas)
 • over 450+ hours of community service as a volunteer swim coach
 • Selected to attend a camp/retreat/workshop thing sponsored by the Austin Rotary Club

App stuff: - Applied SCEA back in mid October

 • Visited campus in April
 • Face-to-face meetings with both Hannah Udell and Morgan England (my rep)
 • wrote GREAT essays (including a good Why Tulane?)
 • Got three awesome letters of rec

Also of note: I emailed my rep (Morgan England) a few days back just reiterating that I really loved Tulane and that I would not disappoint if they admitted me. Now idk if that “pushed me over the edge” for being admitted or not, but something to possibly take into consideration.

If you are still reading this post, thanks for sticking in there & reading this all and a HUGE good luck to those still awaiting a decision.

@fallenchemist- Yes, I did visit, as well as attended 2 information sessions. The demonstrated interest definitely worked in my favor. I also know that after Katrina, Tulane has been very big on community service. I have over 160 hours, including group home volunteering, sandy relief trips, homeless shelters, etc. which also helped. I worked very hard on my Why Tulane essay and since I visited campus I had a lot to write about. I also attend a very rigorous private school with a dual curriculum and a close relationship with Tulane. My point is, everyone has different circumstances and Tulane clearly takes that into account. I NEVER thought I would get in, this was a reach for me, which is why when I saw the acceptance status on Gibson I not only refreshed the page/logged in and out again 25 times, I just stared in disbelief. I will repeat what I said before: The great thing about Tulane is that they are focused on demonstrated interest. If you really want it and go out of your way to demonstrate how much you want it, it can greatly improve your application (I’m not saying it’s definite).
A BIG good luck to everyone else!

I just checked Gibson today and got accepted. I was pretty confident i had gotten deferred because my application was marked complete as of October 6.

Stats:
GPA- 102.26 waited
ACT- 35
SAT- 2290
Ethnicity-Hispanic
Good EC’s
Keep your head up if you haven’t heard back. I thought I was definitely going to get deferred but was delighted to find out that I was accepted.

That’s great Crysdel. Are you applying for any of the bigger scholarships? You certainly have the stats.

My son who has high stats that I posted a couple of days ago and was deferred received his letter of deferral from Tulane today and is not sure what to think.
“After reviewing your credentials the committee decided to defer to the regular review period”. It asked for an updated transcript with fall grades and additional standardized test scores not yet reflected. And states “This additional information will be given serious consideration by the committee.”

Congratulations to all who have been accepted!

Well, OGTMGT, anything we say would be pure speculation. Something in Crysdel’s application and/or resume made Tulane want to take him now. There is really nothing to think, because it is just unknowable. It could have absolutely nothing to do with anything he could control, there are so many factors. Like I said in another post, there is luck involved. The same person applying with an identical application can get in one year and not the next. The pool of applicants and the way the class seems to be shaping up definitely affects these decisions, and obviously there is nothing the applicant can do about that.

If he remains truly interested in Tulane, just send in updated grades and any new major accomplishments, and maybe in about 45-60 days he should tell Tulane again that he remains extremely interested in attending and why. There is nothing else he can do

Thanks for the feedback.

I’m trying to spark some final interest for Tulane by e-mailing my counselor that will be reading my application. I’ve already sent two and I think one earlier in the month.

I kind of feel like I’m not expressing my interest to the fullest. Any ideas of questions I could ask? I’ve been roaming around the site, but I’m not quite sure. Maybe I should just leave my counselor alone lol idk

@eastcoastkid3- I would ask about the community outreach program

I was deferred a few days ago which was predictable because Tulane was a reach for me. Does anyone think that I might have a chance at the RD pool?
I have a 3.0 but at an increase and 1880 SAT’s
CR:560 M:720 and W:600
I have an explanation for my very low freshman year grades.
I also applied SCEA and have ton’s of extra circulars.
Any advice ?

Bad timing, DS just finished his DHS project and logged in to verify the address, where he saw he was deferred. Going to send it anyways, hate to see the work go to waste.

AL34 - being deferred doesn’t mean he cannot win the DHS.

^ thanks for the support FC :)

anyone ever get a decision on a Sunday? I’m thinking no…

My gibson portal has been giving me problems since day one):
It’s said for 2 or so months that my secondary school report has not been submitted, and I’ve contacted the admissions multiple times and have been told not to worry and that I am still being reviewed under early action. But now I’m wondering how I’ll be able to see my admissions decisions if my application is marked incomplete on gibson?
I just sent another email. I’m definitely starting to feel disappointed seeing as I sent in my application in September and my counselor submitted my school report at the end of September. Not sure what to do at this point.

I was accepted today, on a Sunday! I guess that clears up whether or not they update on Sundays. I didn’t expect this but I guess they do!
For anyone wondering, I was an SCEA applicant in Texas
SAT: 2160
GPA: 3.7 uw 4.8 weighted
Decent EC’s, and one of my recs was written by a tulane alumni so maybe that helped?
As far as demonstrated interest i got the opportunity to meet Morgan England in person a few times, and i communicated with her throughout the process extensively to reiterate demonstrated interest.

This seems to be a reoccurring theme. On Friday night, I felt as though I had been waiting too long, so i shot my counselor another email reiterating how badly I wanted to go there. on Sunday I was accepted. Though there may not be an exact correlation, shooting your admissions rep another email late in the process can’t seem to hurt at all.

Congrats to everyone else accepted as well! I’m putting my deposit down ASAP!

Congrats bromar. It was obvious you really wanted this. Welcome to the Tulane family.

@newjersey17 (I can’t private message!) I’ve been contacting the admission office at least once every 2 weeks! Last time I contacted them (end of November) they assured me that the report was there, connected to my file, and that they had contacted my admissions counselor so I would still be reviewed under early action. But since Gibson still says incomplete you’re probably right. I’ve called and called and it seems like nothing changes. My counselor has sent the document three times now I think. I’ve never tried the email within Gibson, so I’ll do that now. Thanks for the help!

Yay, Bromar! Congrats!

Found out today I was deferred. ): but I am not surprised my scores are terribly low. I feel so stupid. Ugh this was my dream school
