The State school, Fredonia has an excellent and affordable program but it doesn’t have the 'reputation" or hype . Although we had this backup plan in place and he fortunately has choices, Its still a dilemma. Cant win. I can make the decision for him based on finances or I can let him choose. Fredonia is also 8 hours away and the other one he wants is 90 minutes away from our home. What to do? I think after they settle in, make friends they will most likely be enthusiastic and happy wherever they land. I don’t think you made mistakes @MTMajorCook. you did a great job helping your S. All of you CC parents did!

@MTMMajorCook our household is in the same place you are! Our D did not audition for any of the more “well known” schools like CMU, Ithica, Baldwin Wallace, CCM, UofMich because we knew that there just wasn’t money for a “petite white girl”. However, even the schools we did choose and she did get into we are strapped to make if the FA isn’t what we need. We are forever in debt to the group of teachers who helped my D get ready (first few years my husband was out of work and we had NOTHING). It is the reason that the PA studio I now have gives lots of money in scholarships. Last night was another tough night as one of the schools that we had a good package from issued us a “no”. While she has some good schools that have accepted her, the FA packages are either not in yet or not enough that we can afford to say yes. Its been a long couple of weeks here for us as well.

Oh and @EastchsterMom I completely get the “friend got in and she didn’t” thing. There is a student who has been stalking my D and rubbing in that she is in at D’s favorite school and D is not. It can really bite being a parent watching those things happen to our children. I am glad that things are better I have been thinking of you a ton! I think it is awesome that parents have a place they can share with others so we all know that we aren’t alone in going through this UNBELIEVABLE process!!!

S got FA letter from University of Cincinnati notifying him of “free ride” Cincinnatus scholarship. Too bad he wasn’t accepted at CCM. Sigh. . .

Oh my gosh! That tops them all!

A little bit like twisting the knife.

I wish the admissions office, financial aid office and theater departments could work together in their communication plans!

Okay, I think that each of us needs to pick a college to work for as a consultant to get the three departments and their communications in sync! I think that we could be a tremendous help with all that we’ve learned!! :)

“Dislike” button mom4bwayboy! My S got a wait list email yesterday from a fairly competitive MT school. I did the happy dance for a while. Until S corrected me and told me that it was an “academic” wait list. What? What are they Harvard? Cruel, very cruel. I had to search the portal to find out that he was rejected from MT. Really?

ACADEMIC WAIT LIST?!! Are you serious?! SHEESH

Got that same email - grrrr! Doesn’t make any sense - I think rejection to MT has something to do with it - academics is a no brainer and the waitlist status is…WHAT???

AAAAAAACK!

@NAtlantastudio - that crap will come back to bite that girl in the but* some day. Don’t worry. She maybe into that school now, but her attitude will close doors later.

So true, dramamom!

mom4bwayboy same thing happened to us got the scholarship notice but wasnt accept to program. It is hard during down free money LOL. @Pittmom2014 I totally agree this has been a crazy up and down week with things we are getting in the mail and phone calls we are receiving. Lets all get on the same page.

@mom4bwayboy – I’m convinced that these FA offers are a brazen attempt to get students who were rejected artistically to attend in a “traditional” major – “you’re not good enough for our BFA, but we want your tuition $$ anyway.” It’s happened to us twice – 50% ride at Wagner and Pace. Pace also threw in the Honors College, a laptop and $1,000 spend money. Then the artistic rejections come in, with a nice letter touting the other great majors the schools have to offer. Haven’t heard from Pace BFA yet; which means probably a “no.” But Pace U wasted no time sending D two letters persuading her to sign up academically. Leaving all that $$ on the table isn’t easy, but if it’s not what D wants, she won’t be happy there, so why force her – I figure we’re wasting $$ in the long run.

@NAtlantaStudio – OMG, stalking?! – I would call the high school about that one. When my older daughter was a HS senior 4 years ago, she was one of the academic elites…wow, the rivalry was fierce and nasty about who got in where. The difference, though, was that all the elites knew they’d get into multiple schools on their lists – my older daughter applied to only 3 elite colleges, period – no safety schools --knew for sure her chances were excellent at all of them, and turned out to be right about that. For our performing arts kids, there is a different reality…as talented as you are, you may not get in anyplace, so it really hurts when your rival gets in and you don’t. My D is the lead in her HS show, and the male lead is of course the accepted student…he won’t shut up about his victory. She is counting the days to the show being over so she can get away from him…how sad is that for your last HS show? I don’t begrudge anyone on their success in this pursuit…lord knows it’s a long, demoralizing, difficult road – but why do they have to rub it in to those less fortunate?

those children who rub it in other’s faces need to learn about Karma. She can be quite the b$%&h!

@redscorpion6. - my D had the same thing happen at Elon last year

@Eastchestermom- pace does make it hard. They continue to due that for a while-I think it went into June last year. Try unsubscribing from there email and maybe send an email that she has chosen not to attend.

@NAtlantaStudio - Thank you. I can assure you S has already commented on how he will pay it forward. He knows how fortunate he is to have people who believe in him and the tradition of theatre.

@mom4broadwayboy - That hurt to read and I even knew it was coming for your S. Ugh…

Pace has sent out FA info to accepted students? SHOW ME THE MONEY! They told my S he got in but I’ve not seen a damn thing in writing yet. No money package to look at. Perhaps it’s cause he’s not MT? (sorry… lurking on your board again… :"> )

Yea lots of people got their PACE FA, weeks ago. Even before the MT acceptance calls were made. I think you should call…you lurker you. lol
