If anyone is interested in a small private school in Nashville TN, Lipscomb University still has auditions also!
UAB (The University of Alabama at Birmingham) has an April 8th audition date.
I just have to say that I am so encouraged by how everyone is looking out for others. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. It’s been shaken a bit during the last few months. :x
Western Carolina has an audition on April 8th
@ALS0830 We’re with you - only1 no so far, and nothing else.
Western Illinois 3/24
Northern Kentucky 4/1
Nebraska Wesleyan holds on campus auditions through April
Hang in there!!
Sam Houston still has audition dates of 3/24 (waitlist only), but it looks like they still have openings on 4/7.
I know nothing about the program but Wilkes University still has two audition dates for their BFA MT program.
Wilkes: March 19 and April 8.
@marg928 here is the link to the waitlist thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1970865-waitlist-class-of-2021.html#latest
@waitingforlife perfect! My D only auditioned for straight acting programs so maybe I will make one of these lists for the drama forum. Meantime I can add hers to this list or not…whatever everyone thinks!
Baldwin Wallace and Kent State both have very great BA programs you don’t need to audition for! BW has an Acting?Directing major that most people minor with dance. Kent State is a major is Theatre Studies that basically makes it a less stricter schedule and more room to dabble than the MTs, but they still take most classes with the MTs. Both of these schools are my safeties and I have also received GENEROUS scholarship money from both schools that would make it very affordable to attend. If anyone else is looking at more safety programs definitely check them out!!
Acting/Directing major* Sorry about that
Otterbein also has a very good BA program. They take some classes with the BFA kids and participate in all the shows.
We live in Houston and are seeing the product of Sam Houston Musical Theater who have graduated and I am telling you this program is on the rise. Houston has more theater seats than any place except New York. Lots of opportunities, great cost of living friendly people. They have good academics. My son who is likely heading to a top 10 school has seen several people go to this school and vault past where they were considerably and at a very healthy place. Beautiful Bldg. Again if you’re competing for a top 10 placement that’s a different story but I do LOVE Houston ( minus humidity LOL-hour away) when we went for the audition saw a lot of authentic comraderie with the students and the productions are quite good.
Son auditioned for and was accepted at UAB. Have not been there yet but we are considering based on the head of dept who we have looked into and have heard nothing but glowing glowing feedback. I sat with her and my son after audition. Was very impressed. Research shows a great city and community. The theater is one of thee finest in the country, they use the same venue as the Birmingham symphony and it is breathtaking. This is another program on the rise with people that care!
Multiple offers are exciting but the cost making them unreachable is like standing outside of the most delicious bakery window with no tuppence for a purchase! Waiting for financial aid is almost as painful as waiting for the offers themselves!
I agree @phillyg007 it is good to get multiple offers for choices, but the $ fit is so important.
I tried to keep my daughter auditioning at schools where I knew we could send her and all of us wouldn’t be financial burdened . It’s so hard because the schools you pick for lower tuition don’t result in an acceptance all the time obviously. A couple schools we chose I thought I calculated good aid from them and felt ok scheduling audition there but now they’re not coming back with enough $ … so a puzzle for sure the whole lot of it!
Our initial goal was “best program with least debt”. I really don’t want her having some monster loan payment due 6 months after graduation. I mean some debt is unavoidable for most people but I have met so many kids moving back home because they can’t make it after graduation with that monkey on their back.
marg928 We live in Tampa and love it here! Transplants from MA and RI it has been our home since 2000. My daughter just decided to apply here, its a beautiful campus and a lot of the HS kids always take their prom pictures here. My daughters HS isn’t far from there. She will audition in April. Even though she loves it here she wanted something different for college. She will tour it on the 19th.
This morning I woke up and realized I’m not having crazy audition nightmares anymore: Now I’m having crazy college visit nightmares!!! :))
