It’s interesting seeing the MTCA acceptances. Thanks @marg928! I’m surprised about Shenandoah though because I thought that they didn’t sent acceptances until early March. If my D knew she was accepted there, we wouldn’t be driving to Ohio this weekend.
We had a similar thing happen with Rider - although by checking the admissions portal my D already knew she was not accepted into the MT program - but admitted into the Arts Admin program. We received a packet about a week later - with a nice financial package - with the acceptance letter on the left side for Arts Admin and the rejection letter for MT on the other. I’m glad we checked the portal, this would have been a bit confusing as well. Same, it was a bit of an early blow, but move on and hope she lands at one of her other schools!
@MReader maybe because it’s an acting acceptance not MT???
@bisouu Where did your daughter end up going? her safety or the wait list school?
ooh ooh I know I know! LOLOLOL! @bisouu
She ended up at her safety…I was pushing for the BFA because it was 10 minutes from home…instead she is 3,000 miles away! LOL
@MReader - Musical Theatre is the only Shenandoah Conservatory program that waits until the end of the audition cycle to make decisions. Most of the other programs notify students after each audition date.

Unifieds! Was super nervous about Unifieds & what to expect. Happy to report that (once you get the school list & hotel map) it is crazy but doable for this mom/D duo! Had 5 scheduled over three days and added 9 walk-ins. Everybody (schools, moms, kids) super helpful & understanding. Did we see some poor behavior? Not really…! Other than a couple testy & tense exchanges between teens & parents- everyone positive & having fun(?!) throughout the process. Hoping everyone doing well & getting great results.
MTMHopeful, our experience is very similar to yours. We are loving it, and finding the whole Unifieds process very enjoyable, as opposed to scary and nerve wracking we were preparing ourselves for. The kids are very talented and super-friendly, as well as most of the parents. I just like striking casual conversations with parents I see at different auditions. While I do not feel nervous, I think that my chating them up might help THEM relax a bit while their kiddos are in the room. Usually, it ends up with a good laught and a big smile :))
Oh, and those gorgeous voices pouring out of each and every audition room!!! I could just sit in the hallways and listen to them sing all day long.
While the outcome is important, so is the process itself. D and I are very grateful for the experience. My D is also one of the sick ones, but coping well…
Ok I emailed the admissions officer a UTampa and she informed me that a letter is in the mail with an academic acceptance with scholarship however the theater dept will notify separately. I’m going to send over her videos today.
That is pretty awesome @marg928! Bonus school!!
I wish my experience at Unifieds was as positive. I hesitated writing about this but, honestly, it kept me up all night.
While waiting for my kid at an audition, I overheard the university staff (students I believe) talking smack about her…using her full name, out loud, so that EVERYONE heard! I’m sure they didn’t know I was her mom but the room was filled with other moms/parents and kids. I sat there frozen, I didn’t know what to do. Finally, I just got up and walked away. I was so upset, and sad, for the rest of the day. I’m glad D didn’t hear because it was her first audition and she was already freaked out enough (not to mention pretty sensitive). I’m trying to figure out what to do with this information. Do I just suck it up or do I say something? It’s an understatement to say this left a really bad taste in my mouth for this particular school.
sorry everyone my post #1509 was supposed to go in the Drama/Theater forum. It’s out of context here!
WOW! @MTheaterMom , how awful! I am so sorry that you went through that. As a Mom, we only want to protect our kids from things like this. I am not sure how I would handle this, but I would think pretty seriously about reporting it to the chair of the department of the specific school. Those people (students or not) should know to be professional and never say anything about a person who is auditioning. It would have been pretty hard for me to not confront them right there. i applaud you for keeping your cool and walking away.
@MTheaterMom that is is heartbreaking. I am so sorry that happened to you and thankful that your D did not hear it.
Really can’t believe it’s been a year since we did the Chicago Unifieds thing. What a whirlwind that was, and I sympathize w/the parents of kids who were under the weather. My D also become progressively worse over the course of the 3 days we were there, and having to see her do poorly for a couple of her top choice schools was heartbreaking…though when she kept her voice warmed up, she had great & some surprising results so it came out in the wash. Hope that it works out for everyone!
@MTheaterMom that makes my stomach hurt! How awful. So sorry that happened. Perhaps that school would not have been a good choice anyway. And those kids were probably jealous! Hang in there.
I’m sorry that happened, @CMB625. I would’ve been shaking from sadness and anger, and I wouldn’t have slept well, either. It’d be a long, long time (if ever) before I shared that with my D. I wouldn’t have one good thing to say about the program to her, though; I’d disclose the story to her, but say it was another auditioner (not her) and talk about how rude and unprofessional it was. Such a turn off…
Hugs to you. Try to hang on to the good that you’ve experienced and seen surrounding these auditions!
@myloves I think you meant to tag @MTheaterMom
@MTheaterMom you have to report that to the head of the department! I know I would! And you should tell all of us what school it is…that’s why we’re here on CC…to find out the inside scoop!
