Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@DramaQueen219 I totally agree with you. Don’t know why they cancelled when there isn’t any snow yet. My older D is currently sitting on a train as they cancelled her flight from Chicago and it wasn’t snowing that bad yet. There is a little hope as we know from living in Michigan…sometimes these storms fizzle out and aren’t as bad as predicted. Fingers are crossed for you.

Safe travels to everyone heading into the storm! My D was supposed to be on a flight to St. Louis that went through Chicago tomorrow, fortunately we got her re-routed through Charlotte.

@DramaMan @type1mom for Ithaca did either of your kids have to do sight reading after they sang?

@myboy2000 Ithaca did ask for sight singing.

Does anyone know if there are any other Ithaca auditions after next week (2/17)? Looks like Michigan will NOT be happening for us today. We are stuck in DC, and every flight they are trying to book us on is canceling as we speak. Trying to figure out if we can swing Michigan next Friday and Ithaca the following day

@DramaQueen219 2/17 is last for Ithaca I believe. You can do video audition. Delta also flies direct from Detroit to Syracuse. If you catch a late flight Friday, you can be at Ithaca Saturday. Ithaca is an hour from Syracuse by car.

@Dramaman and @type1mom Regarding Ithaca portal. My D auditioned on 12/9 on campus and the portal has shown Audition Results in the What We Have column for a while. Have people received letters already? Are you guys MT or Acting? My D is acting.

@FourStars MT here for Ithaca. Portal changed over either late last week or Monday this week. Have heard nothing. I know some received rejections. I think as long as your D’s portal is active that she is still under consideration. But that is only a guess on my part.

Just looked at last year Ithaca acceptance it was Feb 28th we audition Feb week one in Chicago for them. Hope that helps anyone that is waiting good luck its a pretty amazing school.

Update: we made it to Michigan, but it was not an easy trip. Song and monologues done, waiting on dance. Michelle was a sweetheart: very attentive to our situation with the travel hiccups. I’m just happy we’re here.

@lincoln56. February 28th! Wow, that is early! You must have been THRILLED! Oh my to get a top acceptance so early is amazing. Thanks for chiming in.

Heard that there’s a LOT of Frank Wildhorn being sung at this year’s auditions!

S just finished LA Unified. He had Otterbein, Emerson, and Roosevelt and then did walk-ins with Penn St, Cap Malloy, and Hartt School (Univ. of Hartford) and none of the walk-ins charged any fees. Shocking how after we have worked so hard at prescreens that he can just walk in to some good programs. He had a great day and we are officially done. I look forward to the rest of the posts being about acceptances! BAL to everyone over the next month of last auditions and waiting…good news for everyone!

Question about Ithaca: we have not received an updated e-mail with a schedule (going on Saturday). Approximately how long is the day? D has a morning audition.

@alwaysamom Glad I decided against that LOL

@DramaQueen219 . I just found our Ithaca details. They cam in an email on Tuesday before a Saturday am audition on campus.

8:00am check in
8:30 orientation
9: physical and vocal warmups
9:45 transition to auditions
10-12:30 auditions
In addition it specified that that they Will be seeing students in the order in which they applied in Accepted. You will be keeping the exact order at our orientation .
So at end of orientation we got the order. Hope this helps!

@dontaskme1 Wise decision! There are far better choices for contemporary composers.

so…I remember F Wildhorn songs being discussed as not good audition songs before…why is this? My D has one in her book but I am wondering if she should avoid singing it for auditions, etc of other type. Not college auditions but summer stock etc.
@alwaysamom educate me please LOL

Will PM you @theaterwork. Was part of a conversation with a friend who runs an MT program and many others joined it. It wasn’t a public conversation so it would be wrong to share it publicly here.

New Yorker article this week: Five films starring nonprofessional actors.
Just a reminder for me that the path to where D is going is going to be interesting and as media, film, theatre, and society evolves, D as an artist will need to adapt. I am strangely calm and want to savor the next few months at home with D. It is going to fly by.
