Thanks @Boilermom. D’s friends told her Montclair had a space for weight on the auditors’ forms (something like - underweight, fit, overweight).
@artskids maybe that was so they knew what size socks to send! Just kidding obviously but that is strange to have on the auditors form. S was excited to see something in the mail from them and was baffled by the socks!
^^^right? How odd.
Lol no socks here…hmmmmm…
^^^maybe you’ll get gloves!
@soozievt LOL. ;))
I’m dying about the socks. Please find a creative use for them and report back!
@MThopeful2022, I found the Ithaca letter. Hers did NOT say this.
Interestingly, today’s audition (and parent discussion) was the first place I might encourage my d to still attend the school, even if she didn’t get in for the auditioned program. There seem to be many opportunities at Wagner for students who are not in the theatre performance program. There are a lot of classes that are open to all students, as well as auditions for shows. This is a BA program, to clarify.
That’s true about Wagner. My D was about to accept for a non-MT major before the yes came from Molloy/CAP21. Wagner offered a ton of FA, too.
@artskids it’s true I saw that as well for Montclair.
I know this is old information but, vis a vis, the notations on Montclair. My D09 had a drama club classmate who went to Montclair MT and she was quite definitely a zaftig young lady with an amazing singing voice. So, at least a few years ago, they were accepting heavier applicants.
Why is the assumption that because they have a spot for body type that they are somehow discriminating against heavier people? Maybe they are looking for a diverse class that includes heavier people!
Not to switch the subject, but could someone remind me of where to find dates regarding when decisions will be made. I spent the night dreaming that Michigan had accepted my S to the VP program on their portal. This is insane!
I didn’t mean it that way. I, myself, am a heavy person. The way I read the original posts was that there might be a concern about discrimination against heavier people because of the notation system and I wanted to give a specific example that I know of where that was NOT the case at that particular school. I also have no idea where the posters’ kids are on the scale, so to speak, and it’s not relevant to this discussion.
I have no clue if they chose that girl because they wanted/needed a heavier body type or because of her amazingly beautiful singing voice and acting ability or a combination of all. Since she was accepted, obviously her body type either suited their needs, didn’t bother them or (best of all, but highly unlikely given that this is theater we are discussing) was irrelevant… Maybe they would have rejected her if she was a little tiny thing because they needed someone with a different look. If we were discussing general college admissions or medical or law school admissions, choosing on body type or shape, height, hair color, etc. would not be an issue, but in theater auditions, a candidate’s entirety is up there on view and any one part or aspect could mean the difference between acceptance or rejection. It’s an awful reality and one of the reasons why I was happy when my own D opted not to pursue theater as other than an EC at college.
The reality is that there IS discrimination against heavier people. As someone who grew up thin and didn’t get heavy until my 40’s, I see and feel this very clearly.
Just in case anybody is keeping score we totally received the socks.
I’m curious if anyone has heard from Hartt? My D auditioned the weekend of Jan27/28, and friends auditioned at both NY and Chicago Unifieds. I remember the admissions person said they prefer to send notification along with financial aid package if they can - but also said they run on a 2-3 week notification cycle. Thanks, All!
@mommafaria My D has a friend who is a F at Michigan in the BFA Acting/Directing Program who told her that she knows M hasn’t sent out the BFA Acting offers yet, although she (and my D) know that 2 friends at their HS (now Seniors) who applied (and auditioned) at Chicago Unifieds for the Directing (1) and Tech (1) programs were admitted last week. The admissions did not come with FA packages so the kids and parents are still “waiting” –
@Noreplays2018 any idea about Vocal Performance or Musical Theater?
Hey, my kid graduated from Montclair MT, even paid out of state tuition for 2 years before they gave her in state tuition. I want socks! LOL. (I guess someone typo’d the amount the bookstore ordered and they didn’t sell well and they had to get rid of them?) And BTW when my daughter was at Montclair, the one girl who was cast every single semester (I think the only one who was cast every semester) and who was undeniably amazing, was significantly overweight. There was quite a mix of “types” in that program.
My D is a current freshman at WCT - decisions came within 2 weeks or so after her audition.
