My D is a freshman at WCT - she was willing to go in as an Arts Admin major if she didn’t get into the MT program. She LOVES it there - the arts admin kids and performance kids mix a lot and there are Arts Admin kids in some of the shows as well. LOTS of opportunities.
Every program has - or strives to have - a mix of “types.” At the orientation for parents that CAP 21 had in 2014. CAP21 founder and then-director Frank Ventura told us that every kid enters the program thinking that he or she is a leading man/lady. Maybe there’s one or two, he said. The rest will come out of the program thinking that they are character actors. Before we had a chance to look stricken, he then said, “character actors get way more work.” I’ll never forget it.
In 2014 D got a scarf from IU (came with a scholarship offer) - so there is precedence for sending clothing to college applicants to entice them to come to the school! (I think we still have the scarf!)
@kategrizz and everybody else - D got a toothbrush. I’m not kidding.
@EastchesterMom - when I was doing marketing - we used to specifically put something lumpy into our targeted direct mailings.
People are much more likely to open and read something that’s lumpy! So, I totally get what the colleges are about when they send socks, scarves, and toothbrushes. Bumper stickers just aren’t lumpy enough! (And now that I think about it, I think she also got a string backpack bag from one school!)
OMG, during orientation week, the freebie branded merch came hot and heavy!! Blankets, string backpacks, water bottles, little stuffed lions (the Molloy mascot), tee shirts… they were trying to build school spirit (it worked - Molloy students are way in to the school; everybody joins multiple clubs and committees.
I’m almost sorry my daughter didn’t apply to Montclair - I’m so amused at everyone getting socks!!! But, as mentioned, that’s a pricy pair. Honestly, given the price of college apps plus audition fees they should really send something as a consolation prize to all the folks who don’t get into a given program. Fly swatters for having been summarily dismissed from Michigan, garlic presses for the kids whose CMU dreams are crushed…
My son was accepted to Montclair MT but no socks. I guess his feet will have to be cold up on that windy mountain.
@mommafaria No, my D just auditioned for straight Acting, but since M did MT and Acting auditions at Unifieds and on campus at the same time, and because it does not appear that M rolls out decisions based on NYC first, then C, then LA, but all at one time, I don’t think any decisions have been issued yet. I did see on previous years’ boards that some students began receiving admission decisions this week in previous years, with rejections starting to be received around 6-7 days into March for both acting and MT.
Re: all the sock recipients, any Harry Potter Fans out there? LOL #Dobiegetsasock!
@DramaQueen219 my D is a freshman at WCT - if you have any questions OR your d would like to talk to her about the program, let me know. She loves it there!
OK UNCSA question .
I opened the dreaded letter as per my directions from daughter at school (via text). This letter is rejecting
but suggests re-applying next year???
Is this the way they do it, or is this something they mean?
It is a very nice letter (as opposed to chilly Ithaca). They say not to be discouraged and that they had a large increase in numbers this year. Very kind.
I guess I’m wondering if this is a standard nicety or do they mean this? My daughter may end up in NC at Elon and might actually think about it- unless this is a standard kind rejection from them.
UGH -Sorry so spacey. Caring for my Mom and the waiting has made me into someone I don’t even recognize!
@laylamom , my D’s rejection letter did NOT suggest she reapply, so I’d say it’s very good! It sounds to me like your D was someone they really would have liked in their program, but there just weren’t enough slots. But she’s definitely “UNCSA material.”
About the Montclair socks: my D got them the day before her audition. I told her she should wear them to the audition to show “demonstrated interest,” LOL.
@laylamom when did your daughter audition for Elon?
Thanks @actorparent1 ! It helps take a little sting out of this see saw crazy process. We still loved Purchase but are afraid to hope…
The Montclair socks are becoming quite funny !
@FrankieHeckish I LOVE YOUR NAME!!! I can’t believe Sue Hecks mom is here (but then again, Sue is quite the actress
@laylamom Yes, my understanding is that a select few get asked to reapply in their “nice” rejection letter. That is definitely positive feedback! Your D should pat herself on the back. Feel free to message me.
I texted my D at school to tell her the socks got here and she wrote back “guess that means the rejection might be here by tomorrow”. Haha too funny.
@FrankieHeckish She auditioned EA back in November for the Acting BFA.She is strongly considering this because we loved it there and she felt deep respect for the faculty. The audition there took much more time and I so appreciate this. At least they get a deeper look than 10 minutes. The kids and the auditors.
A little worried about being “acting” at a school known for MT because my daughter really wanted an Acting program. She did not get a Guthrie call back. Purchase is still a hope…also NYU and BU.
Everything feels like a long shot though…
We didn’t get Montclair socks. Lol.
