Class of 2023 Decisions

@collegedadto3 I would think they are about the same. Using LinkedIn, pull up each school’s profile and then click on the Alumni tab. You can then select Business administration as the field of study. That will give you an idea of where business graduates end up living and working (and who are the top employers).

Keep in mind that Florida is a much larger state than Wisconsin.

@doublekk2 None, other than visit as many of the schools as you can, and don’t get too crazy with debt.

@VABogart Another win for the state of Florida! Glad to have him in state.

UF’s ME/AE department is one of the largest on campus. Class size is ok, but still a bit bigger than the other engineering majors. My son’s currently a Aero sophomore and his having a good time (HA! he’s working his #$$% off…engineering isn’t easy!). I would think class size is about the same at UF and UIUC.

Take a look at UF Graduation Survey/student outcomes. You can select by major, and see the typical salary range for ME’s, where they end up working, etc. Keep in mind that the survey is based on data collected before graduation. For example, it doesn’t include those that get job offers after graduation.

Thank you, @Gator88NE!

@garamxmasala Which schools do you consider “public ivies”? UF is ranked #8 nationally for public universities.

@Gator88NE Thank you, I will have my daughter do that.

@garamxmasala imo UC Berkeley, UCLA, UMich, UVa, UIUC, UT Austin, UNC-CH, Georgia Tech

doesn’t exactly coincide with rankings like US News, but those are the ones I feel are the most nationally reputed

@garamxmasala Most of those wouldn’t be considered public ivies in my opinion. I think you are using that term very loosely.

Random question: My daughter was admitted for Fall 2019. She is also a contender for a scholarship program that would require that she start for Summer B (and she would travel for summer B, not stay on campus). If she does NOT get this scholarship, she is thinking that she might still want to start in summer B. Her schedule is cleared out anyway. How does one go about this? Just call the admissions office and ask if she can start summer B? What about housing? She won’t know if she got this scholarship until the beginnning of April. Can she request a dorm room for summer B that late? Any advice would be appreciated!

@LakeAlto This seems to be a very specific/unique situation. I would contact Admissions.

@fl1234 - yes. But she does not want to contact admissions until she knows the results of the scholarship. They won’t release the winners of the scholarship until April 1. So at this point it’s a hypothetical situation. I thought I would look here first to see if anybody had some general advice.

@LakeAlto Fair enough. I just think that it would not hurt to anonymously ask whether it is possible to start in Summer if admitted for Fall.

@LakeAlto - if she decides to switch then she’d contact admissions and request a term change. This will be allow her to say why she is requesting being switched. Whether or not it actually happens depends on a few different factors including whether or not someone in summer requests to change to fall and/or how well each semester is yielding.

@LakeAlto I know there is a guy at my son’s school slated for summerB who wants to switch to fall  Maybe you can trade - He’s also in Honors so seems like it would be an easy swap.

@LakeAlto I know last year we had a couple of folks in the forum that wanted to switch to Summer B, and didn’t have any issues with it. I would think far more want to move to Fall than Summer, even though we always get good feedback from those that do attend the summer term.

But like Melissa96 said, if the summer term yield (enrollement rate) is higher than expected, they may not have any available slots.

Good Luck!

Daughter submitted application and essay on 10/30/18. SAT scores submitted 12/20. SSAR submitted 1/22.

I am assuming that this disqualified her for early action…???

The UF website says that for all applications submitted after 11/1 that admissions notification date will be 3/29/19. Technically the application was submitted 10/30/18.

Her portal just says…“Your Freshman application for admission to the Agricultural and Life Sciences - Animal Sciences - Animal Biology (ANSBS-ANSBS01) degree program at the University of Florida for the Fall 2019 term has been received. Please refer to the information below to determine whether any additional information is required. If you have sent information to us recently, please allow time for processing.”

No ‘To-Do’ items on her application checklist.

Not even 100% sure what my question is…just wondering if we should have heard something back in February or if it won’t be until later this month.

@nhboyer Call/Contact Admissions. The late SSAR likely means she missed the 11/1 deadline.

Anybody happen to know how to do the things for the dorm/ roommate assignment? The link UF provided in the email seems to not work for me.

My daughter was accepted to Honors and Undergrad Research scholar. SAT 1540 GPA 4.9 with lots of ECs and leadership and interesting research project. She is struggling to choose between Clemson Honors College with a nice scholarship and UF Honors which is at least twice the size. When we have searched top honors programs, some sites are listing Clemson’s and not UF’s. Any thoughts or advice regarding her selection?

@edconsultant22 I don’t know anything about Clemson, but I can tell you that my daughter is a junior in the honors program at UF and LOVES it. I can also tell you that graduating from UF, a top 10 university will do far more for your daughter in applying for jobs and grad schools than going to Clemson. UF also has an amazing alumni network around the country. So, I can’t speak to the honors program at Clemson but I can tell you that the UF program is great, the honors program faculty and director is fantastic, and the degree will be worth a lot. My daughter is on the Honors advisory council and really enjoys working with Dr. Law who runs the honors program. She speaks very highly of him and has taken courses with him as well. I know several kids at Clemson but non of them are in Honors and they are fun kids but not academic types lol. They love Clemson and have a good time there but have never mentioned their classes lol.

@edconsultmom2020 While Clemson Honor program is good, UF in general is better university (in any rank) and UF Honor program is pretty prestigious.
