When I tried logging back in, I re-enter my VIP ID and password. That is were I get the message saying “service access denied due to missing privileges”.
Thinking cause we didn’t get an official acceptance yet?

When I click the option to update my account, that is when I get the screen which lists all the link options to the left.
There is student email, blackboard, etc.
That’s weird, I am deferred but when I logged in again it states:
“You, (my VIP ID #), have successfully logged into the Central Authentication Service.”
Ok! I see what you are talking about! it also says the same thing for me when I try to update my account settings.
Anyone else get “service access denied due to missing privileges” message??
@Lacole03 does it allow you to view self service Carolina?
Also, my friend who got deferred did not receive anything in her inbox about her Financial Aid, but she did not apply for FAFSA
Yes!
It does!
Seems like a lot of effort for them to load everyone and then deny them…
I agree!
Got the fasfa email, but says service access is denied. My D was deferred for EA, anyone know when we should hear back? This gave us hope that it might come sooner than March??
We got the same email, my son was deferred in December, so not sure if he is in or not, but looking online they only assign the vip id number to admitted students and faculty.
Agreed - this is what it states on their site:
The VIP ID is an eight-digit number that is assigned to you when you are offered admission to the university. It is used to log in to Self Service Carolina. Your VIP ID is included on your acceptance letter and given to you if you have applied for financial aid.
Fingers crossed a good sign.
My daughter got the VIP ID email tonight too
I agree with the comments above. It’d be weird for them to send an email out to every applicant that applied and put it on their FAFSA, even if said person was denied. In addition to that, it seems that they sent these emails out in a wave, much like how they send out admission letters. I’m currently in the portal and I’m able to view my “academic progress” for Fall 2020. It would not make sense to put this if I were denied, however, crazy things can happen and it could mean nothing. A lot of people say this isn’t a sign of admission.
All we can do is officially wait until the portal updates, or until the letter comes.
“Your VIP ID is an eight-digit number that has been assigned to you by USC, providing you access to multiple university sites including Self Service Carolina. If you have been offered admittance to the university, you can find your VIP ID in your acceptance letter. You’re also given a VIP ID if you’ve applied for financial aid.”
Do not take that email as an acceptance. If you were accepted OR applied for financial aid than you received the email regardless if you were accepted or not. Don’t want anyone to get their hopes up!
My son was accepted just days ago after being deferred, and he did receive the financial aid email with his VIP number. The VIP number is the same one that is listed in his admissions portal after being accepted. I think you guys are onto something here.
My daughter received the same email. She was deferred and has not heard back yet. Initially it said that access was denied but now we are able to get in. My older dgt goes to usc and this is the lifeline for students. There are many less options available for her than my junior has.
I was accepted in early December while also being accepted into the honors college in the first wave OOS from Nj with a 1500 and 4.6ish gpa. I have also received a minimum of in state tuition and listed my intended major as history. For those who are saying they did not receive the email, they should check their spam/junk folder as that is where I found mine and it did not show up in my regular email. So they very well may have got it and just not realized.
My deferred D got the VIP ID so she is hoping it means something positive. In the meantime, last night in the HS Senior talent show there was a fashion show skit where several kids did the catwalk in college gear of schools they were rejected or deferred from (with masking tape covering the college names). My daughter had a Carolina shirt on.
It was quite funny.
