Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

@Mimi1977. I would ask to speak with a college counselor… That should get you were you need to go. But better yet just email her AO directly. Let them know what happened and your daughters checking the portal daily. If it was an acceptance she would accept it right then and there.

Yes, it can come from you. Have her ID. Name current school, Birth date.

Then… Report back.

Good Luck.

Ok so I got to someone who knew something. Unfortunately, a few of those emails were sent out by mistake and my daughter isn’t the only one it happened to. The gal was very apologetic and went through everything to make sure we were all set still. As I said my daughter’s friend (with same stats and ECs, different majors though) had the same exact email and an acceptance so it did get her little 17 year old heart excited but glad to know it’s not a “No” either. Thanks for your advice!

Geez, your fast… Lol… Well at least you know. But… Talking to her AO or emailing them (hint) would bring up your daughters name in their mind… Would that help?

To the best of my knowledge, UMich doesn’t admit by major, but by school. You don’t declare a major until the end of sophomore year. In a graphic shown during orientation, UMich stated that 75-85% of freshman will change their major at least once during their time there.

On their website, I don’t see any mention in the selection process of choosing admits by major.

@Knowsstuff that’s a great idea will have her do that for sure.

@sushiritto that’s just me using the wrong words. The first guy told her that LSA had sent out their emails last week. Neither Engineering nor Dance (her two majors) schools hadn’t sent anything. She has handled most of her own applications so I am not in the know to all the different school’s protocol etc…Either way her email was sent because of a glitch and they apologized.

Someone else asked this also. ^^^^ this is correct.

I’m currently waiting back to hear from Ross (hopefully next wave) after being accepted EA in December. I was wondering if anybody has any input on majoring in economics and then applying to minor in finance from Ross if I do not get accepted. Would it be worth it to do this in LSA or to go to a “less-esteemed” school where I was already accepted into the business school to major in finance? Thanks for any advice in advance!

What like Wharton or Sloane?

I’d pick using these decision factors: money, location and fit. I’m also a name brand kinda person. Most schools don’t even offer a BBA degree. Take for instance UCLA.

An LSA degree, with or without the Ross minor, is extremely employable in the business world IMO. But that’s me.

Also, you can apply for an interschool transfer to Ross from LSA, although difficult, they do allow 100-150 transfers per year.

Finally, patience. You may still get into Ross. There are 3 more decision release dates.

I have posted this numerous times. You don’t need Ross to go into Business. Period! Just go to the Michigan website and really look at it. You will find numerous ways to do business types of things. Yes, you can get business internships without Ross. Ross has its advances no question. But it’s not the end of the world. I own two corporations and never took a business class.

At Michigan you can do and be anything you want. If you want it then go get it.

(New t-shirt moto??)

Is there any forum for transfer students?

What does it mean if my checklist is blank?

My daughter was accepted into the school of kinesiology after being deferred. We received the news on Friday, Jan 31st. We are out of state.

Congrats and thanks for posting. Now that we know there was a Kinesiology accepted more reason to try to move on. Kind of confused on what was missing from sons app but will never know

First, and you may know this already, but many spots in the Kinesiology program are reserved for recruited athletes. And the Sports Management major is under the School of Kinesiology. But having said that, UMich won’t know their yield yet, so while moving on is a smart choice, there are at least two more waves of decisions TBD.

Can anyone explain how the admissions process for LSA honors works?

Michigan is my dream school but I was deferred EA (out of state). Would emailing to tell my regional admissions officer of my strong interest and to explain why my grades were bad freshman year, but to reinforce that they have been on an upward trend and that my mid-year grade report is very strong work in my favor or against me? My mom seems to think its a great idea, but I’m not sure the admissions officer would appreciate getting an email just to indicate interest and not ask a question, especially at such a huge state school. Either way, I don’t really know how else to show that I will actually go there if I’m accepted, whereas the other applicants at my school who got deferred or applied RD that I’m competing with for spots will probably not attend.

So… You can do whatever you want to do but if you already sent in your Loci /grades then the AO already has what you sent in. There are hundreds to thousands of these applications with that exact information that you just stated.

Since Michigan stated to send in a Loci and no other information you have the risk of it backfiring also.

BTW if you do send in an email… Stating Michigan is your dream school and your number 1 is all cliché.

Honors program… It’s on their website https://lsa.umich.edu/honors/current-students/academic-information/honors-requirements.html

Has anyone who was EA deferred got in to engineering? Not sure if engineering decisions are out yet
