@weathergirl10 thank you so much! Yes we were surprised to hear so quickly, but definitely nice to know so soon!
She really liked the program and got a good vibe from the faculty there. Seems like a very strong program with strong dancers.
The audition itself was definitely very crowded - I believe 95 to start and then they cut down to 35- half of which were for BFA and half for BA. the audition itself consisted of a ballet class, modern class and then a jazz class before they made the cut.
Seems like they prefer dancers trained in multiples styles- she had two friends audition the same day who are strong dancer but who are strictly ballet trained and they both were cut.
@weathergirl10 when they came out for the break before the cut my D was nervous she’d get cut because her spot at barre was in the back corner lol- but they still saw her. So tell your D not to get discouraged with the large audition size!
So audition # 2 out of the way, USC - has one of the best facilities I have ever seen! It was insane that my DS made it passed the prescreen process and got a chance to live audition. He said it went really well in modern/contemporary and the hip hop sections of groups, had a hiccup on one of the ballet combos though. Solo went very well and judges seemed impressed with his performance, he is such a shy and introverted kid that I had my apprehensions about his interview but he said it went okay. I think we have to just be happy that he was able to show what he could do! On to the next! @gmfalv congrats to you DD, she is awesome!
@NevrMynd51 thats amazing !! Glad to hear it went well for him! I’ve heard the facilities are absolutely beautiful! My D thought of applying just a little too far from home. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for positive results for him!!!
Congratulations to everyone and wishing all of you the best as we continue our auditions and await decisions. I’m a bit envious of those of you who are done! My dd did recently receive acceptance to PPU so that is positive news! Any feedback on PPU would be greatly appreciated. My dd had her USC audition a couple weekends ago and she felt pretty good about it, but we are now onto UCLA this Friday. Soon we will have MMC coming up and I really wish we could’ve auditioned sooner for them, as it would be nice to have a decision from them as @gmfalv does! P.S. @NevrMynd51, yes USC had such impressive facilities and an overall amazing program. Wish they could take on more students
@gmfalv Congratulations! My daughter got her acceptance to the BFA program at MMC yesterday too! She’s in modern. She has also been accepted at PPU for their BFA. And we are waiting to hear from Fordham/Ailey. Any feedback anyone has on making the decision between these schools would be great. Especially between Point Park and Marymount Manhattan (I’m going to leave Ailey out of the picture for now since we won’t hear from them until March).
@weathergirl10 I’ve heard great things about Point Park- my D auditioned at Dancewave so unfortunately has never seen the campus! But a friend recently auditioned on campus and absolutely loved everything about the program and said the facilities were beautiful! I know they produce high quality dancers and they have a great faculty!
@emilyhuntnelson@agflight thank you both! D is seriously considering Marymount- but won’t be able to make her choice until all her decisions come back (we’re still waiting to hear from Pace, NYU, Ailey and she is auditioning for Juilliard). So we’re still in the thick of it too!
@agflight congratulations to your D too! It was definitely a competitive audition for sure! As for choosing between PP and MMC- we’re from NY so my D ultimately wants to stay in NYC- so she hasn’t really seriously considered PP. I think they both have very strong programs and are in an urban setting so I think it would probably come down to where your D sees herself most- city wise and school wise.
@gmfalv Thanks! Definitely not an easy decision. Although, there is something to be said for being in NYC. Good luck as you wait to hear from the rest of the schools.
I appreciate the updates. Mine has been accepted to the dance BFAs at Dean, UArts, PP, and the dance BFA but still waiting on academic admits for Ohio State, Adelphi, and LIU Post, and auditioned for University of Arizona this month.
@ka44an thanks. I’m asking only because my dd and I didn’t 100% trust our impressions of the day, and I was interested in others’ perspectives. She’s decided not to keep it on her list either way, so I guess I don’t need to worry about it!
D is ready to move Springfield off her list. It’s a BA program, so you’d think they’d allow double majoring- and they do- just not with education. She thought that was strange and asked three different people (dance, admissions, the ed department) but it’s true. So that’s one down. Dean is close to falling off too, because they don’t offer any ed program that leads to licensure at all- undergrad or grad school- just an early childhood option. Stockton is off because they only offer one term vs one year gapping. Roehampton London is off for many reasons. She is excited about the 4+1 MaT program at Goucher and has confirmed she could combine it with the dance major. She says her top three for now are Goucher, Wyoming, and Old Dominion in that order (but has only visited ODU of the three so far). Rutgers would have been her number one but double majoring at Rutgers can be a pain and though mason gross allows gap years, you have to reaudition (so doesn’t really?). She is still waiting on Shenandoah, Radford, CoC, and LMU. If she gets into a mix of those the list would likely change. Progress though on losing a couple and ordering them, even tentatively!
@milgymfam Springfield was difficult. The only reason we kept it in the mix is that I spoke with students from the dance program who said that double majoring in the 5-year OT program was possible with dance. The student had to take some gen eds over the summer at a community college. Even the dance director said that they had been able to work out the schedule for both OTs and PTs. Education was difficult because you needed to double major in a core subject like English or Math I think. Dean definitely is more of a springboard school with lots of “pre-nursing” type programs.
@Massmom72 we aren’t from Mass, so I guess I just don’t understand the need for Ed majors to basically double major. Why would a kindergarten teacher need to have a Psychology major. All the other states she is looking at schools, education is a stand alone program that teaches… well, teaching. She said she’s willing to do a separate masters program, but why pay for more school if you don’t have to is my philosophy.
ETA: I’m guessing that teaching in Mass just isn’t for her (requirements don’t meet her needs), but she’s not there yet. She really loves Dean on paper.
