Class of 2024

My son (OOS) was admitted for business. I don’t think he got an email. He just checked the portal and it said “Admit.” He wasn’t even sure if he got in since he didn’t get an email or letter.

@noddy1 congrats for your DD’s admittance! I would think she would be getting one of the 3 Merit Scholarship options…Presidential, Deans, or Directors based on the stats you listed.

I’m curious for those who have received an admit packet in the mail and also received a merit scholarship did the letter/info include the merit scholarship info/amount or was this provided somewhere separately? We are OOS and DD admitted, now waiting for the packet in the mail?

@taverngirl sounds like your S has some wonderful options! UNH is one of my DD’s top choices. It will all come down now to which college will be the most affordable. We are OOS(Wisconsin) and we have family living in Nashua. We love it out there and she feels comfortable having visited there so often and knowing family is not too far away.

@magnum2 We are also OOS and UNH is out of reach without merit. We’ll see once he receives a letter, but I think it’s probably off the list.

My status just changed! I was accepted for Animal Science: Dairy Management. I’m expecting my letter in a few days… Very excited!

Apologies if I missed this earlier in the thread but will merit be mentioned in the letter or as in previous years, is merit/scholarship information provided in a follow up letter?

My son’s merit $ amount was in the physical letter of acceptance he received.

@noddy1 I think I mentioned it earlier but my OOS son (w 3.98 gpa/35 ACT) did receive merit (directors). I was honestly surprised he didn’t get a bit more based on his stats, strong EC, etc. I am guessing the pool was competitive this year. His weak point was community service so possibly that too? Who knows.

@noddy1 My DD received her letter of acceptance in the mail before receiving an email regarding any portal update. Her letter of acceptance did not mention merit aid which we were a little surprised at. 5 days later she received an email regarding her merit offer. So don’t give up hope the offer may still be forthcoming!

My daughter just got her acceptance packet in the mail today. She got accepted into Liberal Arts college (psychology major) and the honors program along with the Presidential Scholarship. We’re very excited! Her stats were: 1400 SAT and 4.25 GPA. Good luck to those still waiting to hear!

Removed.

My daughter received her acceptance packet in the mail on 1/9, she has not yet received an email. Accepted into Biomedical Science major, OOS, GPA 4.1W/3.6UW, ACT 26. Letter says she has been awarded a Director’s Scholarship (no amount specified) and more info will follow within the next few weeks. She is just thrilled. Congratulations on all the acceptances, UNH is a wonderful place!

for those of you wondering about whether merit award comes after the acceptance packet. My daughter called admissions and they told her if you qualified for a scholarship it would be in the acceptance letter. We were very surprised she did not receive anything. She has two friends who were accepted last year with a 10k scholarship and one didn’t even submit her SAT even though they weren’t test optional last year. her gpa and grades ec’s were more impressive she received an email the other day that her financial aid was available. she logged in and she was awarded a 300.00 NH state grant. yes. you read that correct three hundred dollars that’s it.
UNH is not her first choice. i’m glad about that because she would be crushed because the it’s just not affordable without any aid

@bybybaby; @mtemmd; @magnum2 - Thanks so much for all of your thoughts and for sharing your info. My DD reached out to the admission counselor and he said that scholarship info would come with the financial aid package. I don’t understand the inconsistent treatment but I guess I won’t cross UNH off our list just yet,

@noddy1 that’s good to know. you’re right the inconsistency is confusing. i’m glad there could still be merit offered for some who haven’t heard. good luck

@smithve guess Admissions is saying one thing but doing another - there was nothing in my son’s acceptance letter back in early December (got it first week of December) then over Christmas break (12/23)he got an EMAIL detailing scholarships. So no - it does not all come in letter form. Not complaining, UNH has been very nice but misinformation as we never got any info detailed in a physical letter.

Our letter mentioned the scholarship but not the amount. But it was easy enough to look up online.

Not enough to entice him to attend, though.

Has anyone who applied to the UNH Nursing program heard back yet? My daughter applied in mid October and no word yet…

@Momtofourkids did the email direct him to his financial aid page and the scholarships were listed or was it specifically an email telling him he got a scholarship? the only email my D got sad telling her an update was made to her financial aid and when she checked it was a 300$ NH State grant lol. no mention of scholarship. she has low test score but an impressive profile otherwise. 4.5 weighted GPA all honors and AP 2 sport varsity captain NHS and Italian Honor Society many EC a job and she is certified in Sign language. she is applying to the speech therapy program.

@smithve My son has the opposite profile – great test scores and a medicore GPA. He received a director’s scholarship. I think they are pretty strict about adhering to the scholarship requirements. His scores were enough to qualify for the highest scholarship ($12K) but his GPA was too low. You can see the scholarship requirements here: https://admissions.unh.edu/merit-scholarships
