Class of 2024

@2024Mama I did see that however i assumed since they went test optional this year that the SAT score would not be a deciding factor in the requirements. it does state that those going test optional will be given equal opportunity. i guess there really is no rhyme or reason to it. lol.

Ah, I didn’t realize that UNH was test optional. Interseting. Yeah, I guess it’s just at the discretion of the college, ugh.

@2024Mama yes! they went test optional this year. I think this may be partly the reason they awards are inconsistent.

Anyone hear anything so far today?

My D’s has said ready under review for about 1 1/2 months.

My son received his acceptance letter in the mail today with absolutely no mention of a merit scholarship. Looking at the UNH website, I would expect him to get at least a scholarship at the Dean’s level. We are OOS, so without merit money UNH is definitely off his list. Thankfully, he already has merit scholarships at 5 other schools, so he’s all set. Congratulations to those who have been accepted with scholarships, and good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

Still waiting…no news yet

DD received her acceptance packet yesterday. In the letter, it did mention she would be receiving the Dean’s Scholarship. No mention of amount, but we are OOS and just assuming it is the amount they list on the website for OOS for this scholarship.

DD submitted 15 days before the EA deadline and “complete-ready for review” since November 25. She’s 3.7 GPA and 33 ACT, applying for the College of Life Sciences for Forestry. She got into all of her other EA choices: UMass Amherst, UMaine Orono, UVM, URI - nothing from UNH and of course, that’s her first choice. Ugh!!!

@csilva67 She should call. There may be a problem with her file.

My D applied around the same time as csilva67. She just heard today and was admitted. Good luck

We got our Admit posted today. But to alternate major, not Nursing. What the heck?! Can a student transfer in to nursing after one semester? My DD is devastated right now.

MortgageMamma, did your daughter put down Undeclared Health for her alternate major? If so, it was my understanding from the nursing info session that she could take similar courses as the nurses for the first year, and apply to transfer into nursing (I believe as a sophomore). I know that UNH does take some internal transfers into nursing, unlike schools like UMass Amherst, which do not allow any transfers into nursing at any point. I’m so sorry she’s disappointed. The nursing application process for all of these schools is SO competitive and it’s incredibly stressful!

@smithve it was an email directing him to look at his aid/award in his “myunh” portal. $8k Dean scholarship and $2900 OOS grant and then the usual fed loan of $5500 if he chooses to take that.

same here…the final school on my D’s waiting list…not sure of her chances but it would be good to get a final answer one way or the other…

Thank you – good suggestion and we will do that!

still nothing on the portal. Clearly not a good sign

@Summer928 We did not do a nursing info session. We did big tour but I was not aware of that. She put down Psych as her alternate and she was admitted that way. I read online about transferring in and yes, it seems they do allow it. My concern is how many actually get in. Application takes place during 2nd semester of freshman year, with students staring Nursing officially in Fall of Soph year. This would be fine, as long as she’s got a good shot. I know some schools don’t do it or it gets even more selective. I have a call in to admissions to discuss this. I also am not sure if they could change her decision during regular decision.
Ugh, I’m a wreck over this.

@Momtofourkids…how soon after your S received his mailed acceptance packet did he get the email to check his portal and the financial info was listed? My DD got her packet on Monday and not seeing anything in the portal yet. We are OOS and her letter mentioned Deans Scholarship, but again nothing at all showing yet in portal under Financial Aid.

@MortgageMamma … I just looked online and there are two UNH nursing information sessions coming up for prospective students, Feb 21 at 11:15 and Feb 28 at 11:!5. Here’s the link if you want to register:

One of the nursing professors leads the info session, and she would be a great person to talk to about transferring into nursing after your daughter completes her first year. I don’t think Admissions is involved in that process, I think she would apply directly to the Department, but not sure so ask. The nursing professor gave us stats on the number of kids that transferred in the past few years, I don’t remember exact numbers, but it was a small group. Wishing you and your daughter all the best!
